This position serves as Commonwealth Security Architect and works across internal external entities to provide common technical security architecture for the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Reviews proposed changes projects relative to the VITA IT environment for Security impact recommends secure options to meet business needs.  Evaluates new products vendor offerings; develops COV VITA security architecture policies procedures monitors many sources for trends and potential risk to the COV. Specific responsibilities include the following:

 

Document core security architecture standards, policies and guidelines for use both across the COV and in the VITA IT environment update as needed. 

Research and evaluate new products and vendor offerings for use within VITA with a focus towards security. Collaborate with IT Investment Enterprise Solutions.

Monitor and enforce Security Architecture Standards across the VITA IT Enterprise and assess compliance of other COV environments and provide timely and cogent reports of the results of the monitoring efforts.

Develop implement methods to analyze existing security architecture and configurations across the Commonwealth leveraging existing assurance activities such as APA audits, NG SAS 70 Security Audits Agency Security Audits. 

Conduct security research and communicate results.

Maintain current knowledge of pertinent technical and managerial topics by participating in meetings, classes and seminars offered by the Agency, vendors or others.

Monitor security and hacker trends by maintaining dialogue and relationships with external sources.

Documents and reports new security trends and solutions quarterly.

Participates in strategic planning and budgeting activities.

 

Significant experience performing reviews of proposed changes projects relative to an IT environment preferably from a Security perspective.  Experience in the development and presentation of information security architecture policies, standards and procedures is needed.  Significant experience in the analysis of IT environments in relation to information security architecture policies and standards and presenting findings in verbal and written reports is needed.  Significant technical experience in several of the following: LAN/WAN networking, Systems Administration of both Windows and Unix based platforms, firewalls, IDS/IPS design and implementation, security incident handling, computer forensic techniques, databases, web and mail servers, Identity Management systems, authentication and authorization systems, and general systems design/operation required.  Excellent communication and presentation skills required.  Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and acquire new skills/knowledge to meet customer needs.

 

Minimum of a Bachelors degree in a related sciences field, computer sciences preferred.  Security certification (GIAC, ISC2, and ISACA) highly desired.
