Senior Accountant - Global Financial Accounting Controls

Amazon's finance team is searching for bar-raising financial accounting professionals who consistently exceed expectations, who thrive in a challenging workplace, and who can actively contribute to our talented team. The global accounting organization supports our financial reporting, internal control, intercompany, and transfer pricing activities and also supports new business launches globally for Amazon.com in the consumer products, digital initiatives, merchant, operations, logistics, payments, and cloud computing lines of business. We are currently looking for candidates who are at the senior accountant level. Successful candidates for this position will have the equivalent of 5-7 years of professional experience with financial reporting and internal control related responsibilities. This position will have responsibility for supporting all parts of our financial reporting process and will be expected to understand internal control design concepts sufficient to assess the effectiveness of controls in their area. Technical accounting research and position paper writing will also be a requirement of this position. Candidates for this position will have held supervisory or management positions in companies with less than one billion in annual revenues, will have worked for a big four public accounting firm at the senior accountant level for more than 2 years with Fortune 500 clients or equivalent, or have worked in a large public company as a senior accountant. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate they were top performers at their level. This position is expected to have a strong sense of ownership, ability to identify process improvement opportunities, drive positive change across the organization, and enhance partnerships between Accounting and various business and IT groups. Professional traits that each person who holds this position are expected to demonstrate: - Is right a lot - Hires and develops great people - Has relentlessly high standards - Operates at all levels within her/his organization - Expects and requires innovation of her/his team - Has conviction - Results oriented - Thinks big - Has the innate ability to inspire passion in others Degree in accounting or related field with sufficient experience to sit for the CPA exam (a CPA license is not required for this position) Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills Working understanding of an Internal control framework (specifically COSO) and a solid understanding of the concepts of control design and operational efficiency Solid organizational skills along with an aptitude for information technology Excellent analytical skills Familarity with GAAP research tools and the FASB codification Experience with documenting accounting conclusions related support The ideal candidates will have: CPA (or equivalent) Big 4 public accounting experience with Fortune 500 clients Operational accounting experience with one or more Fortune 500 companies Experience working in a fast paced environment similar to a high tech start-up A demonstrated history of solving multiple and complex operational and accounting challenges Aptitude for leading teams; influencing and galvanizing others to follow you toward a solution
