Leading semiconductor and optical company in North San Jose is looking for a Senior Accountant who is Cost-Focused and can own the full cost accounting functions (standard costing, inventory, gross margin reporting and analyze variance costs). This company is a medium size ($25M+ revenue), public company with outsource manufacturing internationally and offices in other locations both domestic and international. Candidates may have the opportunity to travel! The company is looking for a well-rounded Senior Accountant who not only has hands-on experience with cost accounting, but can be versatile and assist with the month-end close process, consolidation and SEC reporting. Training and technical development will be provided by the controller who is a CPA. Ideal candidates will have some experience in cost accounting and a diverse background in public and private industry experience. Candidates will also have experience using a larger ERP system such as SAP, Oracle or Intuit. This is a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The company has been through a few mergers and acquisitions. Senior accountant- Cost Focused Responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to: Ownership of the cost accounting function which would include the following: o Update standard costs in the bill of materials o Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies o Investigate inventory variances and resolve issues o Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts o Validate the cost of goods sold and inventory balances as part of the month-end close activities o Calculate appropriate inventory reserves such as excess and obsolete and warranty o Accumulate and apply overhead costs Preparing journal entries and reporting schedules for the month-end and quarter-end close for inventory and other balance sheet accounts. Preparing monthly account reconciliation for inventory and other balance sheets accounts, investigating and resolving open items. Researching technical accounting issues to record transactions consist with GAAP. Assisting with the annual and quarterly audit reviews which include preparing assigned schedules and fluctuation analysis. Assisting with compliance tax requirements. Meeting all deadlines and takes ownership of assigned tasks without undue supervision. Assisting in special projects and ad hoc projects as requested. Qualifications (Candidates meeting the majority of these qualifications will be considered immediately) Bachelor degree in accounting or equivalent from a major accredited four-year US university. 5+ years of work experience is required including experience working in public accounting (including cost experience) and working in the industry sector. Strong knowledge in the practice and application of GAAP. Big 4 audit experience and CPA is preferred. Experience in cost accounting. Knowledge and experience working with large ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or Intuitive is required.
