Senior Accountant – Financial Planning recruitment

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant has two primary functions:

• Participates in quarterly and annual financial reporting activities associated with the Bank’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including the on-going maintenance of the Bank’s XBRL tagging. The incumbent is the subject-matter expert on XBRL tagging and is responsible for ensuring that our XBRL tagging is consistent with the XBRL guide that has been agreed to by the FHLBank System Controllers’ committee.

• Participates in department-wide and Bank-wide projects, including accounting systems implementation projects. The incumbent plans, organizes and coordinates Accounting projects by estimating resource needs, and by planning and scheduling Accounting department staff members to meet completion dates. This position leads the analysis of project requirements for the Accounting department, and participates in project tasks to ensure completion.

Responsibilities – Financial Reporting:

• Complete the XBRL tagging of each quarterly and annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

• Ensure that our XBRL tagging is consistent with the XBRL guide that has been agreed to by the FHLBank System Controllers’ committee.

• Be the subject matter expert on XBRL.

• Perform other financial reporting duties as assigned by the AVP/Assistant Controller or the Financial Reporting Manager.

Responsibilities – Accounting Systems and Projects:

• The Senior Accountant will be the direct liaison for the Accounting department on the systems implementations and other projects. 

• The incumbent will be the primary tester for all new applications and systems upgrades for the Accounting department.

• The incumbent is responsible for developing test documentation, performance of User Acceptance testing and other analysis required for application implementation.

• Maintains and assists in the support of accounting and business applications, including Summit, TPG, Lawson, Trintech and central database.

• Maintains and assists Accounting department staff in the support of accounting and business applications.

• Performs other functions within the Accounting department as needed. Undertake special projects assigned by Accounting department management.

• The incumbent is responsible for in-house training of Accounting staff on Accounting and other relevant business applications.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills

• Working knowledge of financial instruments accounting.

• Working knowledge of spreadsheet applications and database computer applications.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work well independently.

• "Hands on" individual with strong teamwork orientation.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting.

Experience

• Minimum of three years public accounting firm experience or minimum five years corporate accounting experience.
