An excellent opportunity has arisen to practice and expand your development skills in the financial services sector.
If successful, you will join a team of 3 Java developers providing operational systems and internal and external web-sites to SP Capital IQ's European business users and clients, principally in the funds area.
The projects undertaken are largely either developing new systems or replacing legacy systems with new solutions based on J2EE. You can expect to participate in all aspects of the project from estimating, refinement of requirements, technology selection, coding, unit testing, and liaising on deployment with the infrastructure team.
The role also involves considerable interaction with peer teams in other regions, notably New York and with support personnel such as database administrators based in London.
Apart from your role in particular projects you will participate in discussions on improving technologies, process and practices within the European development team. You can expect to find that your voice has equal weight with those of other team members.
In addition to the continuing team based project work you may occasionally undertake a project on your own or as part of a smaller group.
Responsibilities include:
- Work collaboratively with business partners to understand and clarify requirements
- Work with PMO, Business Development and Product Development to implement new product solutions
- Design and develop industry-leading applications through the entire software development lifecycle
- Respond to and resolve production issues
- Coordinate infrastructure refreshes and participate in disaster recovery planning
Skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering is required, or in lieu, a demonstrated equivalence in work experience.
- Previous experience in a comparable software development field is required.
- Required technical skills: Development experience in Clientele (CRM Solution by EPICOR) or strong VBA, SQL Server 2008, scripting languages
- Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies (Agile preferred)
- Experience in the development environment, source control system, unit-testing tool and defect management tool
- Domain knowledge in Financial Industry and Equity/Funds markets
- Excellent communication skills are essential, with strong verbal and writing proficiencies
