Senior Backup Infrastructure Engineer Job in Irving, Texas US

The Senior Backup Infrastructure Engineer responsible for gathering specifications, building, and maintaining backup Infrastructure servers including, but not limited to Asigra DS-Systems, Commvault systems, Vembu servers, Networker, and Symantec Tape systems. This incumbent will need to be able to troubleshoot and repair complex issues on backup systems such as Server Communication issues, Data Corruption, Server Performance issues, latency, disk type connections, license key registration issues, tape malfunctions, Fiber channel connections, iSCSI connections and NAS connections. The incumbent will also be responsible to interface with support Engineers on level 3 issues, keep appraised of patches, latest technologies, and upcoming infrastructure installations.

 

Candidate will be responsible for the following:

·         Provide Capacity, Configuration, Performance and Availability management services for all backup related technologies/infrastructure.

·         Work backup related customer consultations as required.

·         Respond to, and update on projects or tickets assigned through internal systems with complete notes, milestones, and estimated time of completion.

·         Provide regular updates on all projects and identifying potential risks to management.

·         Create and maintain documentation to support the customer configurations for customer, as well as, shared environments.

·         Deploy and manage associated application platforms used to manage the environment.

·         Create knowledge base articles that can be used by tier one support engineers in response to routine incidents.

·         Identify and schedule routine maintenance events for internal and customer facing equipment.

·         Engineer and maintain backup environment characteristics, including:  disk to tape, disk to disk, and e-backup.

·         Analyze data and develop meaningful reports to be used by technical and business leaders.

·         Serve as third tier escalation for incidents or problems in customer environments that could be related to the storage environment.

·         Manage advanced data integrity functions such as replication, validation, verification and periodic restores.

·         Establish and periodically monitor billing exports.

·         Maintain skill set on all related technologies.

·         Maintain backup environment characteristics including, but not limited to:  server, tapes, disk locations (with storage team), off-site tapes, and application interaction.

·         Analyze capacity and performance for all storage infrastructure to ensure availability growth and readiness for new customers.

·         Interact with the Support Services team to gather requirements to facilitate proper designs.

·         Work with the Development team to provide access and insights to systems and adjust/maintain standards of existing technologies and products.

·         Interact with the Storage Infrastructure team to maintain Backup activities related to storage locations and assist with gathering of requirements as needed.

·         Perform restart services as directed.

 

Required Skills:

·         Successful candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of industry related experience or a Bachelor’s degree and compensatory experience.

·         Strong technical knowledge of server, storage, operating systems and network infrastructures highly desirable.

·         Operating System or Storage Certifications such as Backup Software and Hardware (Tape Libraries, Backup to disk, or e-backup solutions) are highly desirable.

·         Experience with large corporate environments preferred.

·         Experience with moving/migrating systems and data.

·         Experience with a large number of files.

·         Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
