Senior Catastrophe Modeller – London / Bermuda / US recruitment

My Client, A global Reinsurer is recruiting for a Portfolio Manager for the US Region.  The role will report to the Senior VP for Risk Modelling and will be within the Group Risk Modelling department.

Underwriting Decision Support and Risk Modeling

• Ensure the accurate and timely input of insurance/reinsurance submission and exposure data into the appropriate models in order to aid underwriters in the selection of risk.

• Deliver and explain analysis results to Underwriters and Senior Management on a day to day basis.

Portfolio Management

• Maintain a portfolio of catastrophe risks relevant to the US market

• Assist with the process of portfolio maintenance

• Participate in management meetings as may be requested from time to time

• Be responsible for ensuring data products from the US portfolio accurately represent the underlying business.

• Responsible for monitoring the quality, consistency and timeliness of the exposure data.

• Responsible for a calendar of comprehensive reports for Underwriting and Group aggregations.

Portfolio Analysis and Optimization.

• Perform portfolio analysis as required for projects

• Maintain a close involvement with the Senior Group Cat Analyst on analytical projects for Group aggregation.

• Assist Underwriters in the formulation of Underwriting Strategies designed to maximize the return on the portfolio.

• Maintain a close involvement with the Actuarial department to continuously improve pricing and return on capital tools.

• Assist with  Group analysis/aggregations

Risk Analysis and Modelling Strategy

• Contribute to the development of standard risk modeling protocols and, the analysis of underwriting information regarding the underlying exposure data contracts.

• Manage and train other Risk Modelers on the various models by maintaining a thorough understanding the various parts of an insurance/reinsurance submission workflow and different lines of business.

• Assist with the process of maintaining, evaluating, enhancing developing models as required.

• Represent the catastrophe modeling analyst’s perspective in underwriting meetings and client meetings as required.

• Attend industry conferences and transfer knowledge to the risk modeling department on current developments.

• Act as a facilitator between catastrophe modeling analysis, underwriting analysis and technical product development.

• Extend yourself when necessary by performing other work related duties, which may arise 

Requirements:

• At least 5 years experience using Property Catastrophe Risk Modeling Software in a team oriented underwriting environment.

• Experience and/or accredited training with both AIR and RMS software.

• A university degree in a relevant discipline (math or science).

• Experience with computer programming using languages like SQL, Matlab, or Perl would be advantageous.

• Must be proficient with the relevant Microsoft Office Suite of Applications.

• Strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills are essential.

• The ability to work as part of a team is mandatory.

• The ability to travel would be an asset
