Western Federal Credit Union is seeking a Senior Collector responsible for contacting members with delinquent loans to make arrangements for repayment while providing assistance with the coaching and leadership of staff and higher level departmental functions.
Responsibilities include:
- Assists with developing, training and providing feedback for new hires and existing staff to ensure maximum performance, service levels and appropriate results are being achieved.
- Provides guidance and leadership to collection staff in the absence of management.
- Assists management with escalated member issues.
- Assists management with the preparation of monthly delinquency and charge-off reports and with the monthly function of charging-off loans and negative shares.
- Assists the Collection Supervisor with the correction of any errors contained in a member’s credit file reported by Western Federal Credit Union.
- Analyzes credit reports, microfiche and work-cards on delinquent accounts.
- Receives and makes telephone calls to members to discuss delinquent accounts and to make payment arrangements.
- Initiates collection form letters to members.
- Using the on-line Collection Software and summarizes discussions regarding the member's account as part of delinquency resolution.
- Initiates skip trace action to obtain additional information on members. Contacts references and other lenders by telephone for additional information to determine the member's financial situation.
- Discusses collection strategy with management and recommends pay plans and/or extension requests. Proposes repossession or legal action when appropriate.
- Assists in incoming skip trace calls from other lenders and develops contacts for future dealings.
- Conducts face-to-face counseling with members regarding their delinquent accounts when required.
- Reviews and researches vehicle impounds notices on a daily basis for vehicular collateral that has been impounded. Forwarding notices appropriately.
- Completes and submits member services work sheet to Member Services Department to correct misapplied payments and/or resolve member disputes.
Requirements include:
- High school diploma or equivalent with some college preferred
- Minimum three years collections experience in a financial institution, with one year in a lead or supervisory role
- Requires basic knowledge of collection techniques, skip tracing and Small Claims actions
- Knowledge of bankruptcy proceedings,
- The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and proficiency in word processing software application
