Manitowoc Crane, a global leader in lifting solutions, is seeking a dynamic Sr. Commodity Manger to Lead a Commodity Team in order to obtain the most cost effective worldwide and local arrangements for products/services in a specified grouping of strategic commodities by employing skills in market research, negotiation, supplier selection and supplier performance monitoring, coordination and collection of materials requirements from all MCG - Americas operations, for specified strategic commodities. Reporting to the Director Strategic Sourcing, this position is based in Manitowoc, WI, on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan.
Essential Job Functions
- Manage and mentor Commodity Team assigned. Create presentations and training to improve the shills of all Commodity Managers on our Team. Develop individual metrics for each member of your Commodity Team. Consolidate monthly reports for assigned Commodity Managers. Work with assigned Commodity Managers to set performance goals. Conduct performance reviews for assigned Commodity Managers.
- Obtain insight into market events surrounding a high strength steel coil and discrete plate. Develop an understanding of the product offerings available, technological developments, and general pricing trends of the market. Accomplish this by developing sources of information for markets including worldwide supplier base, MCG purchasing groups, trade organizations/associations, trade journals and other periodicals, internet research, labor contract conditions and expirations, and other sources of market news. Seek information on minority and small business suppliers to support SBA procurement objectives in these areas. Document all findings for use in supplier negotiation planning efforts.
- Enter negotiation with appropriate suppliers to develop worldwide and local agreements on pricing, service, and quality levels to be provided. Organize negotiations to include a clear objective, a complete bid package (including any necessary engineering drawings, blueprints and/or specifications), quotes from available suppliers (including warranty and labor reimbursement terms), and necessary input from other MCG operations and departments (IPD, manufacturing engineering, production control, quality, product support, etc). Finalize terms and conditions offered by each supplier and perform value analysis of alternatives for use in the final selection process.
- Evaluate and select suppliers to provide specific part(s) according to negotiated terms which minimize the total cost of procurement (to include cost of quality, lead time, and inventory levels) by reviewing supplier offerings with appropriate MCG operations and departments (e.g. engineering, quality, product support, etc.), and facilitating the final selection process. Document arrangement to support tactical purchasing conducted by production control, and enters contract/agreement terms into the BaaN system.
- Review and evaluate supplier performance in terms of price, on time delivery, lead time and quality. Collect input data from other MCG operations, Production Control, Quality, and A/P to performance analysis. Provide performance feedback to suppliers, develop appropriate performance improvement action plans in conjunction with the supplier, and initiate improvement activities including coordination with other departments.
- Lead projects as assigned by the Director of Strategic Sourcing.
- Maintain ISO documents for process improvements. Work to consolidate MCC and SG ISO documents into a single process for the Americas
- Successfully complete all safety training required by the time constraints set by governmental regulations.
Job Requirements/Working Conditions
- Bachelors degree required (Engineering, Metallurgy, Supply Chain prefered)
- 1-3 Years of leadership experience required
- Experience in Supply Chain, Materials Engineering, Weld Engineering or related field desired.
- Graduate level education preferred.
- C.P.M. and/or CPSM certification strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering or materials management/logistics/supply chain mgmt.
- 5-10 years experience with coordinating a multi plant $50 million expenditure in HSLA raw materials (discrete plate and coil) preferred
- 5-10 years experience with a broad range of metal processing and fabrication capabilities including oxy fuel, plasma, laser and water jet cutting of High Strength Steels preferred.
- 3-5 years experience with HSLA 100 ksi to 140 ksi materials from 4 mm size parameters to over 4 thicknesses preferred.
- 3-5 years experience with hedging risk mitigation strategies preferred.
- 5-10 years experience with HSLA design, production or fabrication capabilities from simple shapes to complex subassemblies.
- 5+ years strategic procurement experience preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of the global manufacturing processes.
- Experience using and interpreting modeling and forecasting tools is a plus.
