Senior Engineer Process Safety Job in Kansas City, Missouri Us

The incumbent will:

 

·         Lead and document process hazard analyses (PHA) and process safety reviews utilizing HAZOP, What-if and Checklists methodologies for capital projects and in support of 5-yr revalidations for Bayer sites;

·         Lead PHA for capital projects with an in-depth knowledge of the global best-practice solution and regional regulatory requirements;

·         Lead Incident Investigations or analyze safety incidents as requested by Management using Root Cause Analysis methodologies to improve safety performance;

·         Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of the “best practice” safety concepts for Bayer manufacturing processes;

·         Collaborate with site safety groups and also with global process plant safety community to develop comprehensive solutions utilizing experience exchanges, cross-training and short-term rotational assignments;

·         Demonstrate strong knowledge of recognized and generally accepted good engineering  practices (RAGAGEP) and process safety related government and industry standards (i.e., OSHA, NFPA, ASME, EPA and API) and chemical process safety;

·         Participates in process safety audits for compliance to Bayer policies at plant sites throughout NAFTA;

·         Prepare and update PSRM guidelines to assure compliance with OSHA, EPA local, state and insurance regulations and requirements;

·         Support corporate, site-wide and departmental process and safety goals by working in close cooperation with Engineering and Site Operations;

·         As needed, provide safety statistics reports, including for key performance indicators and process incidents;

·         Represent Bayer on trade associations (e.g., Chlorine Institute, CCPS, etc.) and in recruiting talent in collaboration with Business Units to bring the best value to Bayer;

·         Mentor junior engineers in developing process safety knowledge;

·         Demonstrate knowledge of multiple areas of process safety engineering (i.e., Risk assessment management, pre-startup safety reviews, safety instrumented systems, static electricity, dispersion modeling, incident investigation, fire protection technologies, etc.).

The selected candidate is required to possess the following:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of six years of professional experience or;

·         Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of four years of professional experience;

·         Minimum of four years of industrial experience in the chemical or petroleum industries in the area of process safety, operations and / or engineering;

·         Thorough working knowledge of process safety concepts and methodologies;

·         Ability to read, comprehend and use PIDs, material balances, equipment and layout drawings and specifications for complex chemical processes;

·         Proven experience in performing, facilitating and documenting process hazard analysis and root cause analysis using detailed, systematic approaches;

·         Knowledge of recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP) and process safety related government and industry standards (i.e., OSHA, NFPA, ASME, EPA and API) and chemical process safety;

·         Strong, effective communication and presentation skills;

·         Experience in performing safety reviews, safety critical devices, incident investigation techniques, and ability to develop innovative ideas and risk-based solutions.
