Senior Investment Officer
CalPERS seeks a Senior Investment Officer to work under the general direction of the Chief Investment Officer of the CalPERS Investment Office. The Senior Investment Officer assigned to the position identified above demonstrates the CalPERS Core Values (Quality, Respect, Integrity, Openness, Accountability, and Balance), works well as a member of a team, and takes initiative in effectively performing the following functions:

The SIO will be responsible for analyzing, formulating, evaluating, recommending, and managing the implementation of new and innovative global equities investment strategies, programs, and policies to achieve program objectives. They will oversee existing global equities programs, and policies to ensure alignment with overall program and total fund strategies. The incumbent will set objectives and performance standards to achieve program objectives. They will coordinate and integrate the global equities program with all other investment programs to ensure consistency and high quality across asset classes, portfolios, and investment strategies, as well as participate as a member of the senior management team in the development of the organization’s overall investment strategy. The SIO will participate in the selection of and provide leadership, supervision, and management direction to internal CalPERS staff and external advisors, managers, and consultants responsible for the management of domestic and international global equities portfolios.
Minimum Requirements and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, finance, or a closely related field
• Seven years of broad and extensive investment management experience for a major financial institution or firm, or governmental agency, including some supervisory experience over professional staff; and review of a large and varied investment portfolio.
Desirable Qualifications:
• MBA or advanced degree in finance, economics or another applicable technical field
• Professional certification such as CFA, CAIA, CPA, etc.
• Seasoned investment professional with advanced negotiation, financial analysis, and problem solving skills
• Extensive investment portfolio experience focused on global equities and utilizing quantitative techniques
• Knowledge, skill, and experience defining processes relevant to a large scale, multi-faceted portfolio
• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience driving change
• Demonstrated track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with employees and a broad range of internal and external business partners
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as polished presentation skills
• Creative, critical thinker, analytical, organized, ability to multi-task
• Experience working within a public sector or similar environment will be beneficial
