The key accountabilities for this role include, but are not limited to
* Responsible for Monthly Operational Loss reporting (Pure and Extended Risk) for all Santander UK entities to Head of Global Central Operational Risk
* Responsible for all Operational Loss reporting (Pure and Extended Risk)
o Internally to Group of Directors in UK and Spain.
o Externally to Bank of Spain and UK for all regulatory reporting operational loss reporting as well as maintaining reporting compliance in line with UK regulatory bodies ORX, and FSA.
* Management of the Operational Loss Control team multi site based (Leicester and Milton Keynes (approximately 9 FTE).
* Ongoing effective leadership, management and development of the team are essential in ensuring that the operational losses for the bank are closely monitored, reported and controlled.
* Identification and implementation of daily and weekly operational loss controls bank wide to highlight internal fraud, and potential abuse of bank policy (both internal and external). This includes liaison with SIU and other divisions of the bank to assist in investigation of identified cases.
* Owner of the Partenon Write off Application - SGO for all instances - San Uk, Cahoot and Corporate, and responsible for implementation and monitoring of controls over the usage of the application.
* Ensuring an End to end specialism in operational losses from branches through to the financial accounting.
* Development and continuous improvement of the write off (SGO) systems from an operational first line financial control perspective ensuring ongoing adaptability and synchronisation with the business.
* Responsible for all financial operational loss reconciliations - including SGO balance sheet ledger reconciliations, Operational Loss Chart of Accounts ownership and monitoring, and reconciliation of EDB (local loss database) to the financial ledgers (P/L accounts).
* Responsible for reporting with EDB and performing monthly provisions movements reconciliations
* Key contact for the bank for operational losses liaising directly with heads of business areas (Complaints, Fraud, Geoban, Op Risk) - including attending Operational Risk Committees
* Project Management - This role is required to undertake management of projects and initiate working groups, tracking progress through to delivery of loss saving. Projects can include management of operational teams to identify operational loss reduction initiatives - working with the relevant internal stakeholders (Service Delivery, Retail, MTU, GC) to lead projects and working groups implementing improvements and processes to mitigate and minimise potential loss.

The Person
* Proven senior management experience/background ideally within a Retail Bank environment.
* Excellent analytical skills with an understanding of accounting for operational losses
* Sound understanding of the operational risks applicable to a Retail Bank
* Exceptional influencing skills with the ability to be self-motivated and driven to achieve results
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentations to Board level
* Basel II/Cargabal knowledge
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
* Excellent project management skills
* Experience of major systems implementations
* Experience of team management
* Experience of process improvement activities
This role will be based between Milton Keynes and Leicester and will involve travel between Head Office sites in the UK and Spain (where necessary)
