Senior Manager, Operational Risk
Job description
CBA is looking for an experienced operational risk professional to join the Business and Private Bank (BPB) Operational Risk team in Sydney, to provide advice to certain product teams in Corporate Banking Solutions (CBS) in all operational risk matters.
You will report directly to the Head of Operational Risk BPB, and will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of proactive, value-add and consistent Operational Risk advice to the following product teams in CBS: Commercial Lending, Asset Finance, Global Trade and Transaction Services (Trade Finance and International Payments), Merchant Solutions, Transaction Banking Services and Cash Management Services (including Commbiz, Cash Management and Domestic Payables/Receivables).
In this role, you will be required to manage stakeholders from across the CBA Group, and provide coaching, career development and guidance to 4 direct reports.
The team
The BPB Operational Risk team is responsible for ensuring that the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) operates effectively across BPB. This includes:
- Providing Line 2 Operational Risk advice and support;
- Acting as the key contact between Group Operational Risk and the business units supported, including providing regular communication to key stakeholders; and
- Consolidating information from the business units supported to provide a CBS wide position.
Main duties
- Overseeing operational risk advice provided to the CBS business units detailed above;
- Monitoring adherence by the CBS business units to the ORMF;
- Being a trusted advisor on Operational Risk matters, including optimal risk versus reward;
- Supporting the CBS business units in embedding and maintaining Operational Risk practices;
- Supporting the review and development of business unit risk profiles;
- Owning discrete projects outside of 'Business as Usual', aimed at improving compliance with the ORMF and appropriately managing emerging risks;
- Raising awareness of operational risk issues and incidents by designing and delivering relevant training material to senior management across the businesses supported;
- Conducting deep dives into areas of potential concern, identified through loss incidents, trends or at the request of the business; and
- Managing and leading a team of 4 Operational Risk staff.
Essential skills and experience
- Strong operational risk knowledge and experience, preferably in banking and finance
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and sound business acumen
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to prioritise, schedule and meet challenging deadlines
- Ability to understand and communicate concepts accurately and appropriately
- Demonstrated personal and interpersonal effectiveness, and a strong team player
- Strong knowledge of commercial banking products
