Roles and Responsibilities

Design selected mechanical system elements to support development of new products in the image acquisition (cameras other sensors) and display fields.

Conduct detailed prototype design, test, and iteration

Validate designs using empirical and analytical methods

Collaborate with product marketing, clinical, and engineering teams to determine design requirements of image systems

Manage third-party development partners from source selection through specification, design, integration, verification, and design transfer to manufacturing

Develop metrics, protocols and test fixtures for qualifying system designs

Shepherd projects through the design control process (design specification, design review, risk analysis, etc.), and support New Product Introduction personnel in initial builds (procurement, assembly, troubleshooting)

Assist with production difficulties involving system components

Act as a consulting engineer to sister groups with mechanical system design needs which involve vision components such as optics, cameras, and displays



Competency Requirements

Bachelors' Degree in mechanical engineering, or commensurate experience; Master’s degree preferred

Demonstrated exceptional proficiency at robust, professional vision system designs. At least five to seven (5-7) years of design experience strongly preferred

Proficiency in SolidWorks, with familiarity in ProE a plus

Experience with applied mechanical analysis such as thermal and FEA

Knowledge of precision mechanics, optical mounts, electro-mechanical actuators, and fixtures

Knowledge of plastics, sealing, ceramics, autoclaving, and injection molding

Comfortable making complex, multidisciplinary tradeoff recommendations in the face of incomplete information typical to new product development

Proficiency in all phases of the development lifecycle including design, implementation, verification, validations, and transfer to manufacturing

Experience designing systems which involve human factors and bio-compatibility

Demonstrated history of products reaching the marketplace

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including regulatory required documentation

Experience selecting and managing OEM partners

Familiarity with ISO requirements and GMP guidelines a plus. Experiences with medical device design control a strong plus

Familiarity with the optical design process.
