Senior Oil Market Analyst – Consultancy recruitment
Role:
- Provide analysis and interpretation of current and future trends in refining operations (downtime, margins, specifications and legislation, trade)
- Play a key role in developing the company’s outlook for refining and product markets in the short, medium and long-term (capacity, throughput rates, trade balances, margins and profitability)
- Contribute and take responsibility for one or more flagship analysis reports produced by the company (weekly, monthly and annual basis), covering refined oil product markets, price and margin forecasts, refinery operations, supply/demand balances and product trade
- Contribute to and lead bespoke projects for clients on downstream/refining, products market and trade
- Interact with clients and company offices in other regions (by email and telephone, and presentations in person or remotely). Some opportunity to travel within Europe and further afield.
Requirements:
- 5+ years experience of working in and/or analysing downstream oil markets
- Excellent numeracy and written skills
- Proficient with Excel
- Ability to look at a situation both from a general perspective as well as to penetrate into issues in depth when required
Expertise in one or more of the following:
- refining (technical knowledge is an advantage but not essential), primarily Atlantic Basin
- short-term market analysis
- strategic analysis in medium/long term
- price forecasting (including crude and product differentials) in Europe, US and Asia over short and long-term
- supply/demand balances of oil products across regions and impact on markets
- crude and/or product trade
- operations of physical markets (transportation, shipping, storage)
- downstream company analysis and performance
The candidates we are interested in meeting would have in-depth knowledge of the downstream sector, either gathered through hands-on experience in the real world – whether in
- refining itself (planning, scheduling, margin optimisation)
- another operational environment (such as shipping or distribution),
- or in a trading environment (ideally physical rather than paper) or other relevant discipline, or else through 5+ years in consulting or analysis.
- Experience of working in an ‘actual oil company’ rather than just consulting would certainly be an advantage, but is not essential.
