Senior Optical Network Engineer Job

The Cyber and Information Solutions Business Unit currently has an opening for a Senior Optical Network Engineer. The Senior Optical Network Engineer will provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise in support of SAIC's Passive Optical LAN offering. The candidate will work on projects varying in size but having a focus on large campus area networks. Work will include network design, planning, and implementation as well as proposal support, team leadership, and product development. The Senior Optical Network Engineer will specialize in passive optical networks and ROADM / OTN transport and work on a diverse team to design large networks which encompass many component layers. The Senior Optical Network Engineer will make product selections, complete integration testing with other networking components, document designs, and make adjustments based on changing requirements. The candidate will serve as a technical expert for team members to reference, as a liaison with equipment manufacturers for product logistics and improvements, and as a resource for customers in the design of complex solutions. Research, evaluate, and recommend new tools and technologies to system engineering staff. Required Experience: The Senior Optical Network Engineer must demonstrate strong experience in designing large network solutions with optional experience with WAN technologies. Working knowledge of VLANs, VRFs, OLTs, ONTs, splitters, DWDM, SONET, ROADM, and fiber optic characteristics are all import aspects of the job. The Senior Optical Network Engineer must have recent experience in the design, integration, and implementation of large networks. Candidate must be proficient in creating a detailed design of networking components or the integration and modification of a design into an existing environment. Candidate must be proficient with current network technologies and standards to include IEEE, RFC, EIA/TIA, and related communications standards. Must be able to review requirements and specifications developed by others and render comment and recommendations as part of a formal consultant peer review process. Candidate must be able to supervise other network engineers and provide expert technical support on network installation projects. Previous experience working with government agencies is a plus. Qualifications: TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 10 years of directly related experience. Technical network certification such as CCNP, JNCIP, or similar is a plus. Additional years of experience may be accepted in place of degree or certification. Ability to obtain a top secret clearance with polygraph.
