Senior Radar Engineer

Introduction: The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Radar Engineer.

Job Summary: Assess capabilities and limitations of key Ballistic Missile Defense System radars (AN/TPY-2 and AN/SPY-1) and provide development and operations recommendations to Department of Defense sponsors.

Duties:  Analyze the performance of AN/TPY-2, AN/SPY-1 and other Ballistic Missile Defense System radars to support system development, risk reduction, ground and flight tests, and mission planning. Provide recommendations for radar development and operations to sponsor.Contribute to radar model and simulation development to support analytical tasks including: 1) evaluating and modifying existing radar models, 2) identifying emergent modeling and simulation needs and strategies, 3) establishing requirements for new models and simulations, and 4) participating in code design, development, integration, and/or testing.Participate in coordination and oversight of junior-level radar analysis and simulation development staff. Support Verification, Validation, and Accreditation of evolving radar models and simulations.

Required Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or equivalent with at least 7 years experience in relevant analysis or engineering tasks.  Strong communications skills.
 
Desired Qualifications:   Master's degree or PhD strongly desired.  Experience in missile defense radar analysis and systems.
 
Special Working Conditions:  Regular local travel to meet with government sponsors and occasional domestic travel to contractors and other laboratory organizations.
