Senior Real Estate Officer recruitment

Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 plus discretionary incentive compensation

Job Description

The Senior Investment Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of real estate investments reviewed and/or selected by the South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission (RSIC). The primary focus of this position is due diligence, oversight, evaluation, and monitoring of investment allocations over a broad range of real estate investments. The Senior Investment Officer will report to the Director of Private Markets.

Qualifications

Minimum of five years of experience working in real estate for a pension fund, large endowment, foundation, or fund-of-funds.

Bachelor’s degree in Economics or Finance is required. MBA or MS in Finance, Economics, Math, Statistics, or other related field is preferred. CFA or CAIA Charterholder is preferred. Considerable knowledge of investment terminology, principles, practices, and procedures are required.  

Qualified candidates must have experience in institutional investment programs, including, but not limited to: pension funds, endowments, foundations, insurance, trust funds, etc. Candidates should have leadership capabilities, strong analytical skills and possess comprehensive knowledge of spreadsheet software with an emphasis on Excel modeling, presentation graphics, and word processing. Candidates should have the ability to convey technical information in a clear, concise, and useful way. Prior experience in conducting manager due diligence and investment underwriting are critical for this position.

Must have expertise in reviewing, negotiating, and closing legal documentation related to real estate investments (including both limited partnerships and separate accounts). Candidates should be familiar with key terms of the limited partnership agreement, understand the importance of side letters, be able to work with internal and external counsel, exercise sound judgment regarding legal transactions, and be willing to participate in on-going training in order to keep up to date on closing documentation.

Must have a high level of technical competency and be quality focused. Candidates must have the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. Candidates must be driven toward career growth and have adaptability and initiative to act upon new opportunities and accept new challenges. Some travel may be required.
