Purpose of role
You will be responsible for managing SSgA's relationships with some of the largest and most sophisticated institutional clients and prospects in our UK business including DC fund platforms, life companies and master trusts that are using SSgA products in their pension and investment solutions for their underlying institutional clients. In addition, you will help us to develop our growing portfolio of directly managed defined contribution pension business.
Reporting to the UK Head of Institutional Clients and the UK Head of Defined Contribution, the Senior Relationship Manager and his/her team will be responsible for shaping and influencing the customer experience of existing DC and platform client relationships, serving these clients at the highest level and building meaningful, trust based relationships with SSgA's clients, their advisors and service providers. You and your team will take the lead in understanding clients' strategic direction, working with clients and others at SSgA to provide business solutions, developing business plans and successfully executing against those plans to enhance and expand relationships with institutional clients.
With access to some of the leading minds in the global investment management industry this role is an exciting opportunity for an organised, driven, commercially-minded professional to take responsibility for an exciting portfolio of clients. Your role will be pivotal in SSgA's quest to become the leading provider of asset management solutions to DC and platform clients in the UK.
Role accountabilities
- Successfully managing a portfolio of key clients and prospects and building mutually beneficial relationships that are valuable for our clients and for SSgA.
- Managing and developing a small team of Relationship Managers who are integral to our client management and business development activities.
- Working closely with local and global colleagues in Institutional and Intermediary Clients, Portfolio Management, Marketing, Product and Operations to ensure that we are growing our business in a client-centric ethos that also meets the needs of our shareholders.
- Contributing to the achievement of revenue targets from a range of SSgA strategies and solutions that span active and passive investment styles, developed and emerging markets, traditional and alternative asset classes, absolute return and multi-asset solutions that includes target date funds.
- Promoting the heritage and capabilities of SSgA and State Street as a world-leading provider of investment solutions.
- Ensuring our clients' positive experience within the firm by overseeing exceptional servicing, pre-empting any possible problems and proactively enhancing standards.
- Safeguarding the integrity and culture of our firm by championing risk and compliance policies that protect our clients' interests.
- Sharing your knowledge and experience with others in the business as we progress initiatives that make us even more relevant to our clients.
- CFA or equivalent graduate level finance qualification
- Defined Contribution knowledge and experience essential (markets, products, competitors, regulatory environment and requirements, etc)
- Minimum of five years of relationship management experience; understanding of best practice relationship management in a global investment management firm
- Background in or thorough working understanding of operational challenges for distribution platforms
- Proven track record in building and growing new client relationships
- Expertise in a range of single and multi-asset class solutions
- Knowledge of derivatives strongly desirable
- Natural leadership skills and the ability to motivate and galvanise others
- Strong idea generation, action orientation and goals focus
- Strong
listening skills - High impact presentation and communication skills
- Effective planning and organising abilities
- Team player with experience in building strong internal and external relationships
