Vertex Inc. is looking for a Senior Research Analyst – VAT that represents Vertex, internally and externally, as a tax subject matter expert by being knowledgeable of the tax compliance and administration requirements of commercial business entities. The primary tax knowledge indicators include the ability to understand and interpret the application of the tax body of knowledge to general business requirements as represented in Vertex software products. An additional requirement is to represent the tax body of knowledge in Vertex services initiatives and engagements. This position will join the Vertex Content Development group and focus on international indirect taxes particularly Value Added Tax. This resource can be located nationally or internationally.
- In this role, you will assume responsibility for:
- Ability to research and interpret tax and case law and determine how it impacts Vertex products regarding the addition of new content or the maintenance of existing content
- Ability to structure complex tax content within Vertex products in a logical manner that is consistent with system architecture and platforms
- Ability to test complex tax content and functionality within Vertex products and internal databases
- Perform quality assurance tasks
- May be called upon to assist in leading projects and / or workgroup activities
- Strong contributor in developing requirements for new tax functionality
- Ability to understand complex customer issues while learning systems feature functionality to develop solutions

Education and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other business discipline. Equivalent work experience may substitute for some portion of the education requirements.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 4+ years of value added tax (VAT) and other indirect tax experience in a multi-jurisdictional environment required
- Diverse industry or consulting experience a plus
- Understanding of accounting functions and principles required
- Must be proficient with tax research tools and navigating the internet
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to clearly articulate to internal and external stakeholders and with individuals from diverse cultures around the globe
- Ability to work with a high degree of independence
- Must be able to represent Vertex as a co-participant at product demonstrations, presentations, seminars, panels and webcasts
- Must be familiar with automated tax systems
- Understanding of tax information and the ability to formulate interpretations and determine how they apply to Vertex products
- Strong aptitude for detail
- Strong analytical and logic skills
