Senior Structuring Analyst, Oil

Great role within a  Global Structuring team that supports Trading activity.

The Structuring team is part of a wider Trading Analytics centre of excellence within front office, responsible for providing a broad range of analytical support that directly supports the Oil and Gas commercial activities.

An opportunity is available for a Lead Structuring Analyst to join the team and provide structuring support primarily to oil trading and origination groups, and to lead the day-to-day activities of more junior analyst(s).

The Structuring team is responsible for providing structuring support to the European and Asian oil gas, power and emissions and global LNG originators and trading desks. 

-working in a proactive role with traders, originators and business developers in developing, analyzing and valuing potential deals,

-developing and improving valuation and hedging of energy assets and structured transactions,

-assisting in the structuring and valuation of deals by understanding and quantifying the embedded optionality, risks, and relevant value drivers,

-challenging and validating modeling approaches using the appropriate analyses and influencing the commercial leads to enhance deal value

-contributing to developing the capability of the Structuring and wider Analytics teams through actively promoting shared common valuation approaches, knowledge sharing and challenge of ideas,

-liaising with commercial leads to communicate valuation approaches and frameworks, and ensure business requirements are addressed

-coaching, mentoring and leadership of day to day workload of junior analysts

Essential Education:

- Graduate in a highly numerate subject (MSc/PhD level preferred)

Essential experience:-

 -Experience in several energy commodity markets with deep knowledge of the markets, key participants, deal types and key elements of the value chain price drivers - e.g. European oil (preferred) and gas, power, emissions and global LNG.

-Experience in the valuation and management of physical energy industry assets and structured transactions, such as pipelines, storage, refining, blending, shipping, power plants as well as exotic options.

-Deep understanding of sources of value in deals, with ability to translate business needs into specific solvable problems and tasks, being theoretically rigorous or pragmatic as appropriate to the situation

-Ability to manage new activities, development of hedge strategies and models, leading on using and sharing best practice

-Expertise in applying quantitative finance to complex energy deals, and communicating and influencing application of the results

-Able to evaluate and manage risk of complex instruments and assets, and challenge deal assumptions

-Strong communication skills, able to communicate complex issues such as deal structures and to both technical and non-technical audiences, and guide and influence commercial decision makers with presentation of analysis

-Able to lead others – facilitating others to play to their strengths, acting decisively and energizing people, sharing own work, ideas and feedback with team members and developing a collegial environment
