Position Description:

The Tax Accountant - Compliance Group is responsible for tax compliance and reporting matters for certain life, property and casualty, and non-insurance companies within the US organizationalstructure of Swiss Reinsurance Company. Reporting to the US Tax Director, the Tax Accountant - Compliance Group is responsible for all tax compliance and reporting matters. The position participates with other tax colleagues and senior management in planning the selected Companie's operations to minimize taxes, consistent with overall corporate objectives. In doing so, the Tax Accountant - Compliance Group works closely with the Swiss Re colleagues in both Overland Park, Kansas and Armonk, NY. Additionally, this position will assist with research projects as directed by various members of the Swiss Re Group Tax organization. These projects are likely to center on the GAAP tax reporting issues and their implications on the Swiss ReGroup.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare/Review quarterly US GAAP and statutory tax provisions and related internal tax questionnaires/reports

- Prepare all income tax filings for assigned entities

- Provide assistance to Swiss Re's US tax audit group, including potential issues raised by federal and state tax authorities

- Oversee compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley related tax initiatives

- Ensure appropriate policies are in place and adhered to in order to comply with all areas of applicable tax law

- Research pronouncements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and eventually the International Financial Reporting Board, determine appropriate tax accounting and reporting for the Swiss Re Group

- Prepare various state, local, property and sales tax filings for selected entities

- Analyze proposed transactions and planning opportunities

- Participate in review of EVM basis financial statements

- Collaborate regularly with finance, legal and operating organizations within Swiss Re

- Interact, manage and coordinate external relationships with independent auditors, outside advisors and client counterparties when tax issues arise

Requirements

College or university degree with an accounting designation,

Masters in Taxation a major plus

Combined 3-5 years Yrs of Corporate and Public Accounting Tax

Experience (Big Four experience a plus)

Experience with derivatives, complex financial products a plus

Strong knowledge of FAS 109

Strong Research / Problem Solving Skills

Strong Communication Skills (verbal and written)

Good Computer Literacy (Word, Excel, BNA, CCH), Knowledge of Acct.

Systems a plus
