Smart Innovation Manager recruitment

A contractor is required to join my clients Operations Change Programme team. This person will be responsible for delivering projects or project work streams, driving change and implementing process re-engineering initiatives. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the business across multiple programmes.

This role will directly influence the day to day lives of nearly 6 million consumers. The government has mandated that Smart meters will be in every house in the country by 2020. This is an enormous opportunity for a consumer focussed marketer.

The Role

• The role will be funded within the Smart Metering Project (SMP) which is the new generation of Smart Meters in every home to meet the Governmental requirements.

• Working in partnership with the Smart team, the post holder will be responsible for leading the development of a set of smart metering related products and propositions for the B2C business. The post holder will need to ensure alignment to BAU governance and the Retail strategy from today’s world to that of smart.

• The post holder will champion the business unit strategy at all times and balance the needs of the business together with the key deliverables of the smart meter project to ensure we seize this opportunity.

• They will lead the liaison between the project and the business to ensure a single point of connectivity providing consistency of the deliverables and that business and project objectives are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Head of Innovation, the Smart Innovation Manager will work with the relevant teams in the Retail business unit and the Smart Metering Programme (SMP)

• Ensuring the customer voice is heard in the ‘core’ Smart products by leading the definition of the customer questions we need to answer, working with CMI to agree the best methodology and then bringing and representing the results of all customer research into key decision meetings.

• Working with the SMP to ensure “core” products (smart metering system) are developed which can support the deployment of “non-core” propositions.

• Based on robust customer testing, designing the “non core and value add” portfolio of smart products and services and lead these through the internal sign off process for trials and mass deployment of smart meters, potentially delivering in excess of £1bn T/O

• Ensuring all propositions and teams are aware and compliant with the industry, regulatory and legal requirements associated with all smart products and propositions. In the event of non-compliance, you will be accountable for identifying and resolving or escalating as appropriate.

• Working with the business and the SMP to produce robust business cases to determine the ‘size of prize’ of the “non core” smart products and services and its alignment with the overall Smart Metering Investment Case.

• Develop and own the competitor response roadmap together with the deployment of any pre-roll out activities within the BAU teams.

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following desirable qualities:

• Proven track record of marketing and product development within a matrix organisation essential

• Proven track record of working within large project teams an advantage.

• Strong project management experience.

• Excellent knowledge of marketing and product development (including working with agencies)

• Good general business knowledge including finance, market research etc.

• Good knowledge of performance metrics within business unit/s or similar organisation

• Knowledge and understanding of customer needs, customer experience, marketing and channels to market for customer retention and acquisition

• Excellent knowledge of marketing, customer experience and campaign delivery

• Proven ability to prioritise workload effectively in line with business priorities.
