Description

Justification: BNY Mellon combined existing capabilities in collateral management, securities lending, liquidity services, derivatives services (D360) and collateral financing into a single department – Global Collateral Services (GCS). It is anticipated and expected that the demand for these services will grow even further and faster as a result of market and regulatory changes, and GCS requires additional legal capabilities in the EMEA region, in terms of substantive knowledge and daily coverage, for collateral management (GCM), derivatives services (D360) and liquidity services (GLS) to further support the legal activities of a diverse portfolio of complex businesses.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as senior legal counsel to GCS, supporting in particular GCM, D360, GLS and reporting to the EMEA head of Legal for GCS.
- Draft and negotiate service agreements.
- Advise senior business managers, commercial and back-office teams as well as Compliance, Risk, Credit officers on legal and regulatory issues that arise in connection with the business and the negotiation of new contracts.
- Recommend and manage outside counsel engaged to assist the business.
- Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments and advise senior business managers and other corporate constituents.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience:
- LLB or equivalent from an approved and recognized law school in a common-law jurisdiction, and a qualified solicitor or equivalent with 7 to 9 years of experience in the banking sector (preferably some in-house experience).
- Experience in negotiating and advising financial institutions engaged in transactions involving securities finance (e.g. repo, securities lending, derivatives), collateral services (including derivatives collateral management, liquidity services, tripartite control agreements), global custody and clearing, security agreements, prime brokerage services.
- Experience negotiating complex service agreements with professional customers.
- Experience advising senior business managers and control functions with respect to risk, credit, operational and compliance issues.
- Experience advising senior business managers and clients with new product development.
