Software Engineer
Software Engineer - Performs engineering work of various types to assist with the process of the collection and analysis of data using specialized data acquisition equipment and analysis software. As such, the engineer should:
Be willing to travel and possess excellent interpersonal skills
Be able to work within an engineering team to design or re-design these systems and develop a thorough knowledge of them including their operation, maintenance, and repair
Be able to clearly express his thoughts verbally and in writing
Work as part of multidisciplinary teams, not only with other engineers, but also with marketing and sales staffs, technicians and customers
Multi-task and show the ability to work in a supervisory capacity as careers progresses.
As an engineer, the candidate will:
Confer with other engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
Participate, develop, and implement new research ideas as directed by others and be able to apply good engineering practices and electrical theory to engineering research projects.
Develop engineering applications in LabVIEW for PC based data acquisition equipment. The responsibilities will include the entire software lifecycle of obtaining the requirements, design development, coding, testing, documentation, and training. This requires excellent programming skills and technique if not already experienced with LabVIEW. The software developed will be used by other company engineers to perform various instrumentation and control tests of equipment in nuclear power plant. Also, some of the software and equipment is sold to nuclear plant for their technicians to perform the testing themselves. As such, the software must be very robust, user-friendly, and easy to use because many of the tests are only performed once every 18 months.
Travel from 8 to 12 times per year for average 3 day duration to perform testing at various nuclear plants. The person will serve as the company ambassador at the plant so must be able to interact well with others and be highly professional. This work is largely seasonal due to plant outage schedules and will have travel concentrated in the spring and fall.
Compile data and write reports of completed projects and analysis of data taken at customer’s sites and from research projects.
Conduct field service testing to collect data for analysis.
Other technical and non-technical tasks as assigned.
