JOB SUMMARY
CalAmp’s Wireless Networks group is a leading provider of high reliability wireless communications systems for the public safety, utility and transportation markets. Wireless Networks’ product line includes market leading wireless M2M devices, M2M cloud services and market specific mobile enterprise software applications. The Software Product Line Manager will be part of the Wireless Networks’ M2M cloud service and application software product offerings.
Wireless Networks is organized with vertical market business units that are responsible for marketing and sales of products in each of Wireless Networks’ targeted vertical markets. Products provided for these markets are built from Wireless Networks’ broad portfolio of horizontal technology platforms that include private public wireless communications technologies, industrial commercial gateways cloud services for vertical market mobile and enterprise software application integration. These technology platforms are developed and delivered through centralized Engineering and Operations organizations.
CalAmp’s Product Line Management organization manages CalAmp’s products throughout the entire product life cycle ---from product definition, development, launch on-going support. Product Line Managers work directly with the Wireless Networks’ vertical market business development, engineering operations organizations to define, sell, deliver and support CalAmp’s market leading M2M mobile workforce automation solutions.
CalAmp is headquartered in Southern California with offices in Southern California, Minnesota, Atlanta Montreal Canada. This position works out of CalAmp’s Irvine, CA offices.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Software Product Line Manager is responsible for product life cycle management of CalAmp’s cloud service and application software product offerings. The Software Product Line manager will manage all aspects of CalAmp’s software product offering, including planning definition, positioning, program management, pricing, strategic customer support working with third party software developers to license and co-market vertical market applications. Specifically the Software Product Line Manager will:
- Be responsible for the revenue growth and profitability of CalAmp’s software product offerings.
- Provide technical leadership and direction for cloud application software development, licensing and co-marketing activities.
- Work with the Private and Public gateway device product managers to define and drive the development of highly integrated, application-specific device, cloud and application software solutions for the public safety, utility and transportation markets.
- Lead software product planning and work with the Vertical Market Business Units Engineering to develop software product roadmaps for cloud services and application software product offerings.
- Act as the program manager for all software product development projects coordinate activities between Engineering, Operations the Vertical Market BUs to ensure on-tim-product launches.
- Establish pricing licensing terms for SaaS, PaaS and middleware software product offerings.
- Monitor competitive product offerings to ensure the CalAmp software products are market leaders in performance and price.
- Be the software domain expert and support the BUs with strategic account sales by providing technical and business expertise to assist in closing major account opportunities.
- Identify and develop strategic relationships with third party software development and application providers to leverage internal development capabilities, accelerate new product launches and rapidly broaden CalAmp’s software product offering.
- Direct and drive the development of necessary sales collateral materials including web content, data sheets, white papers and new releases.
- Work with senior management to develop long term strategic vision, strategy plans to drive substantial growth in CalAmp’s software product revenue.
EDUCATION
- MBA Required BSEE or BSCS preferred.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 10 years experience in enterprise software or cloud computing industry
- 2-5 years experience in a 24/7 consumer web application business
- 2-5 years, hand on software development experience highly desirable
- 2-3 years product line management or business development experience in the enterprise software or VoIP
- Knowledgeable in web software development and associated technologies: Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, SOAP
- Direct experience with mobile applications, cloud software products and technologies
- Experience with integrated device and cloud service products such as VoIP phone systems, Apple or Android apps is highly desirable
- Wireless communications background a plus, but not a requirement
- Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of PL management development ROI
- Highly organized, effective multi-tasker who determine, set and maintain priorities in a highly dynamic organization
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
