Software Systems Engineer (Senior/Project Engineer, System) Job in Pittsburgh 15219, Pennsylvania Us

Ansaldo STS is a technology company which is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, and is active in the sector of railway transport and urban rail transport systems as designer and supplier of traffic management and signalling systems, and related services. It acts as general contractor, system integrator and turnkey provider of major projects all over the world.

For this position Ansaldo STS is looking for 1 entry level candidate and 1 experienced candidate.

Functional Title of Position: Systems Engineer (SE)
Department: Technology

General Summary of position:
The Software Systems Engineer (SSE) is primarily responsible for the creation of software system requirements that conform to contracted customer requirements, can be implemented by Ansaldo-STS engineers and contractors, can be verified and validated, all within the cost and schedule of the project.
The SSE communicates directly with the customer to decompose customer requirements to a level of detail that both demonstrates to the customer that Ansaldo-STS understands the customer requirements and is sufficient to be understood by the development and test teams for implementation, can prove that the detailed requirements trace to one or more customer requirements, and can prove that the validation and verification tests trace to one or more customer requirements such that all contracted customer requirements are fulfilled.
The SSE focuses on analyzing and eliciting customer needs and required functionality, performance, reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (PRAMS), documenting these requirements, and proceeding with design synthesis while considering the complete problem domain and the entire system lifecycle. The SSE, collaborating with a systems architect, shall strive to formulate solutions that incorporate existing Ansaldo-STS products, re-useable project solutions, and commercial-off-the-shelf products.
The SSE estimates the level of effort for all software systems engineering activities during the proposal phase of a project. The SSE may also perform a gap analysis between a contract proposal and an existing Ansaldo-STS solution. The SSE also identifies and specifies customer requests that are outside the scope of the contracted customer requirements, including cost and schedule impact for decomposition and specification of these requests.
The primary deliverables are the Software System Requirements Specification and the Requirements Traceability Matrix. Depending on the project, other deliverables may include System Change Requests, Concept of Operations and Interface Design Specifications.
The SSE is accountable for the overall system compliance to the contracted customer requirements, system feasibility and system integrity. The SSE must balance the complexity of the customer requirements with the technical, cost and schedule considerations and constraints to achieve an optimal systems requirements specification.
Position Dimensions/Scope:
SSE’s are involved in all Ansaldo-STS projects. The involvement of an SSE is intended to mitigate significant risks associated with noncompliance to contracted customer requirements.
Depending on the size of the project and development methodology, the SSE may be involved in one or more projects at a time. On large projects, the SE may be working with a team of software system engineers.
The SSE is expected to be the primary technical interface between the customer and the development team. This includes explaining the requirements to the developers and explaining the proposed solutions to the customer. The SSE will also collaborate across the enterprise with teams from other technology groups in the company (engineering, information technology, production, service, compliance, safety) to ensure proper specification of the entire system solution.
