Description

The job holder participates in the design, implementation, integration and support of various mainframe, mid-frame, distributed, web and PC operating systems and ancillary products. S/he works with users and management to analyze user hardware and software needs. S/he also designs, codes and implements infrastructure software by providing solutions and enhancements to support applications and operating systems. S/he coordinates changes to software configurations while keeping down time to a minimum.

Job Description:

The job holder coordinates production support activities for major systems and related subsystems to ensure the integrity of computer systems. Ensures timely and effective resolution, reporting, tracking, and communication of incidents with the user and technology community. Responsible for the timely escalation of significant support issues to ensure effective 24/7 support.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Ensuring application and infrastructure problems are resolved expediently, status effectively communicated to business and support teams.

Central point coordination and governance over the resolution of significant production issues. Tracking, coordination, and escalation for resolution of open incidents and ongoing problems.

Engagement and coordination of internal and external support groups for incident and problem resolution.

Provide on-call / off-shift support for critical technical issues to the production environment as required and by rota.

Coordinating and communicating significant releases and change to the IT environment. Develop implementation logistics plans, provide on-site release day coverage, set up and chair conference calls, perform release readiness validation. Includes weekends and evenings, sometimes at short notice.

Coordination and chairing of IT change planning meetings as required. Deconflicting issues with support groups required to support the change.

Ensuring monitoring requirements, wellness checks, application triage information for applications are in place and appropriate. Identifying and implementing opportunities for improved incident detection, avoidance and resolution.

Assisting with IT projects such as hardware and software upgrades. Coordinate with internal and external support resources critical to the upgrade, keep application team updated on all communication with external parties as it impacts the upgrade. Deconflict issue issues between groups.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 - 4 years experience required. Job holder must have working knowledge of the company's organization's technology practices, standards and procedures and have a solid understanding of the overall software architecture and infrastructure components. S/he must have prior experience with producing detail-level functional requirement documentation and assisting with the selection of the optimal testing environment for specific applications. S/he must also be experienced with coordinating all parties affected by putting new applications into production. S/he must be experienced at addressing a variety of technical (hardware, software or application) problems. S/he must also be customer-service oriented and have effective oral and written communication skills. Job holder must be an experienced problem solver who thinks creatively about solutions and adapts easily to changing priorities. B.S. or B.A. or equivalent work experience required; certification beneficial.

Knowledge, Experience, Training

Have knowledge of the company's total computing environment including major roles, interdependencies, and organizational responsibilities.

Job holder must have in-depth experience with reviewing proposed technology changes, assessing potential consequences and effectively managing wide-impact changes to the production environment.

Has a background in infrastructure and or/or application support.

An understanding and accreditation in ITIL support processes an advantage.
