Job Purpose:
To ensure the efficient coordination of day-to-day presorts and barcode/commingling activities to include employee supervision, mail processing and preparing mail for postal dispatch. To ensure that all mail is processed in accordance with all postal regulation and Access Direct customer agreements.
Duties:
- Communicate and coordinate the day-to-day floor operations with Sort Supervisor.
- Responsible for the training of new and existing employees.
- Ensure all machines are running at their maximum capacity while adhering to all quality control procedures.
- Ensure that all employees understand company policy and safety procedures.
- Ensure that all employees are performing job responsibilities efficiently and accurately in accordance with operational procedures.
- Knowledge of sort schemes used to process First Class and Standard 'A' mail.
- Posses a working knowledge of postal rules and regulations pertaining to automated sorting.
- Possess an in-depth knowledge for all equipment related to mail sorting (i.e. OCR sorter, metering machines, strapping machines, scales and associated software.
- Interactions with quality control department to ensure all procedures are followed and all work meets USPS requirements.
- Ensure that all mail is received, staged and processed.
- Ensure that all paperwork is completed for accurate receipt of mail and is handled properly.
- Coordinate and stage all mail and ensure that all QC procedures are followed.
- Coordinate the processing of all mail received in accordance with Access Direct and postal regulations.
- Ensure that all production schedules are maintained.
- Ensure that all mail is presented to the Postal Service on time.
- Ensure that Postal Clerk receives all copies of documentation and that Access Direct copies are presented to the Office.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
- Interaction with technical staff on issues detected during daily machine operation in which these affect the timely completion of mail processing.
- Communicate all on-site issues with Sort Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all proper inventory levels of supplies are maintained per job requirements. (i.e. labels, colored paper, etc.)
- Perform a written and verbal daily turnover with the next shift supervisor, when needed
- Perform any other ad hoc duties that may be required from time to time as assigned by the senior staff.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and be able to bend constantly.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Must be able to supervise and evaluate the job performance of large numbers of employees. Must possess strong communication and leadership skills.
- Self-motivated and possess a strong sense of urgency, good organizational skills, capable to manage time, strong attention to detail and be able to handle multiple assignments without losing effectiveness.
- Posses knowledge of mechanical sorting methods. The use of sorting equipment such as MLOCR's and DBCS's.
- Able to understand and develop sort schemes. Possess a thorough knowledge of USPS mail preparation regulations.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of company policies, job-processing procedures, job-related documentation, quality assurance procedures, and production standards.

- Minimum High School or equivalent education required. The ability to read, write and understand job instructions, correspondence, reports and memos. Posses a command of the English language, or translation skills. Bilingual a plus, but not required.
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience in an OCR and/or Letter Shop environment.
Other Information:
This position is required to work weekends and other irregular hours as deemed necessary.
