Description:
The Application Development Manager’s role is to plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of organizational information systems and software applications. The Application Development Manager is also responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading existing systems and applications as well. The Application Development Manager is responsible for overseeing 2ndlevel support and incident management of existing systems and applications. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide his/her development team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
- Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
- Lead pre-testing phase of development by evaluating proposals in order to identify potential problem areas, and make the appropriate recommendations.
- Collaborate with developers, project managers, and business owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.
- Manage and provide direction for the application development team in support of business operations.
- Liaise with network administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.
- Identify and resolve program errors.
- Provide technical leadership to project managers and programmers working on development project teams.
- Train the development team in new technologies and techniques
- Define and enforce technical standards and best practices amongst the development team.
- Develop and maintain technical architectures and frameworks
- Review and analyze existing applications’ effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
- Design, develop, and install enhancements and upgrades to systems and application software.
- Manage team staffing composition and levels
- Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
- Ensure that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
- Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices.
- Where necessary, prepare, establish, and monitor budgets.
- Liaise with and provide technical expertise to the offshore overnight support team
- Participate in occasional weekend maintenance testing
- Required to monitor blackberry and be available for off hour incident management during morning batch processing as well as evenings and weekends
Position Requirements:
- Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science, and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.
- 10 years direct experience in software development and/or programming design and systems management.
- Proven experience in overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of software solutions.
- General knowledge of Financial Services. Preferred detailed understanding of Investment Banking, Capital Markets, Research, Equity and Fixed Income trading
- Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
- Application Development Management of a team of a group developing and supporting C#.Net Systems. Technically fluent in programming languages, including C#, VB.NET, WCF,
ASP.NET /MVC, AJAX, jQuery, XML, MSBUILD and PL/SQL. - Extensive experience with the following development tools: Visual Studio 2010, Resharper, nUnit, CruiseControl.net, log4net, Subversion.
- Good knowledge of database systems including Oracle and Sql Server
MAJOR PLUS:
- Knowledge of database design and file management techniques.
- Strong experience with enterprise reporting technology, preferably Cognos 8.4
- Working knowledge of Microsoft PC operating systems, including Windows Server editions
- Knowledge of network hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, LDAP, etc...
- Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Ability to conduct research into application development issues and products.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.

This position is open to candidates looking for a long term consulting position or RTH Option. The client would initially engage the candidate for 12 months contract and if everything works out, they will
make the candidate an offer to become a permanent employee .
