We currently are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and innovative Senior Packaging Engineer. This key position will be based in our corporate offices (this may change depending on location i.e. operations, distribution etc.) in Northridge, CA (So. CA).
Position Summary:
Organizes, plans, directs and conducts research in the area of packaging technologies that lead to improved, new innovative and creative packaging applications in support of company goals and objectives. Responsible for the design, development and implementation of packaging.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manages multiple projects in multiple locations using Packaging Project Management techniques. Includes management of primary secondary packaging material and specification design and development, prototyping, package/product compatibility, package testing, protocols/validations, and specification development, .
- Creates and executes packaging test protocols and methods. Analyzes test data and presents test results and conclusions that leads to the approval of packaging configurations or drives improvement of current designs.
- Manages project management timeline development and tracking, project budgets, and all packaging design and development documentation, cost estimation of packaging components and packaging systems.
- Provides leadership on projects and positively influences at all levels within and outside the organization to promote effective working relationships in support of the team objectives. Works directly with other functions to establish and manage priorities.
- Works collaboratively with Purchasing, Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and Suppliers to design, direct, and implement packaging cost saving, sustainability programs and innovation initiatives.
- Provides technical leadership to identify and implement packaging projects that ensure quality standards, consumer and customer needs, machine ability, package performance, and continued supply of packaging materials.
- Serves as a technical service/troubleshooter when more generally defined packaging problems are beyond the scope of the plant/corporate personnel. May serve as a resource, consultant and/or mentor to other Packaging Engineers and personnel within the company.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Requires a four year college or university degree in Packaging or a related Engineering discipline. (MS in Packaging or related field preferred)
Certification:
None. "Certified Packaging Professional" issued by the Institute of Packaging Professionals is preferred.
Experience:
- Requires a minimum of seven to ten years experience in design, development, and testing of packaging components. Experience in developing products with a wide variety of packaging materials, particularly bottles, closures, paperboard and flexible films, and using appropriate packaging testing methodologies. Experience in ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) for use in evaluating packaging performance and barrier properties.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Clear/effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively present technical concepts to a nontechnical audience.
- Proven interpersonal skills to positively affect results of cross-functional and internal teams. Highly motivated and efficient to drive measurable results.
- Strong project management and organizational skills and demonstrated technical problem solving ability.
- Proven record of delivering multi-disciplinary projects on time and on budget.
- Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, TOPS, MS Project, and one or more drawing programs (Auto CAD, Packaging, Adobe Illustrator, or similar programs)
Physical Requirements:
Manufacturing and general office environment. Frequent lifting of boxes weighing 25 to 50 lbs. Requires occasional travel to other sites, suppliers, conferences, and trade shows.
Environment:
Limited exposure to disagreeable elements.
Safety:
The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely without endangering the health or safety of self or others.
