Sr. Production Support Programmer Analyst (Java/J2ee) recruitment
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads support of the applications and supporting system infrastructure. Takes responsibility for complex and challenging on-call issues, acts as first point of contact for any job failure; review problem(s), identify issue(s) and work to resolve it; if cannot independently resolve it, escalates and works with escalated resource to solve the problem. Monitors the system and communicates with other areas regarding problems to ensure the system is functioning. Uses advanced verbal and written communication skills and mastery of all aspects of the Engagement Model to promote best practices for application supportability. Develops and sustains collaborative and consultative relationships within team and varying levels of associates/managers within GBST and with business partners to discuss issues and resolutions; provides status updates so others are informed of any implications that might affect them (e.g., trading implications). Provides direction and assistance to other Programmer Analysts regarding complex technical issues. Learns other development languages and stays informed of recent programming/technology topics to keep up to date and ensure their ability to work on a variety of projects using the latest languages/applications; receives cross training to support client server applications (e.g., Java, Oracle). Consults with and advises Production Support System Consultant, other PS Programmer Analysts, PS Analyst, Engineers, Production Support Leads, etc. regarding the use of new languages to support the applications of their assigned business units. Writes moderate to highly complex code, based on their translations of functional requirements and unit tests code to ensure proper functionality for business use. Assists in the estimation of the size of the effort required to complete large production support initiatives based upon analysis of requirements of modules assigned to them; estimates costs and time allotment needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred
- College degree in technology related field with 4 years relevant experience (applications development experience) preferred
- Experience integrating new applications into an existing environment preferred
- Advanced degree preferred
- Some experience estimating development effort and scope preferred
- Some experience mentoring less experienced technical staff preferred
- 3 or more years of SQL, DB2, or Oracle experience preferred
- Prior experience working in multiple technical environments preferred
- Prior experience supporting Retail Operations and/or Retail Marketing preferred
Required
- College degree and 2 years of related work experience, or
- Associate degree and 4 years related work experience, or
- High School diploma/equivalent and 6 years related work experience
- Adaptable and able to learn quickly
- Strong Java skills
- Strong J2EE skills
- Proficient in several of the following: HTML, DHTML, Struts, Servlets, JSP, JSF, EJB2.0, JNDI, JMS, JDBC, JavaMail, JavaScript, Applets, RMI, Java Multi Threading, Web Services, Spring
- Experience with IBM Websphere Application Server (WAS) v6 and v7
- Experience with IBM RAD
- Experience in UNIX
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to multiple systems and support multiple business groups
- Demonstrated advanced ability to translate functional business requirements into complex technical solutions
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively work with people in the team, other IT departments and/or outside of the enterprise
- Ability to design moderate to highly complex technical solutions
- Demonstrated extensive experience applying technical standards and change control policies and procedures
- Demonstrates leadership ability
- Three or more years Object Oriented programming experience
- Proficient in SQL and Relational Database Concepts and Design
- Expert knowledge of a particular technology/language or unit-specific application
