Sr. Project Manager
This position will represent the OptumRx Specialty Benefit Outcomes Strategy Team in evaluating, managing and supporting opportunities that result in program development and integration efforts with UHC Employer Individual and other affiliates. Provide management and leadership of new and existing Specialty Pharmacy initiatives focused on affordability improvements, clinical management programs, external partnership opportunities and cross-UHG integration efforts to improve drug and medical management of conditions that rely on specialty pharmaceuticals. Additionally, the position will define, plan and manage activities of Specialty Pharmacy initiatives to ensure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and funding parameters while also forecasting and monitoring program performance and results.
Responsibilities
Develop and leverage relationships across UHG toward pursuit of a common Specialty Pharmacy agenda.
Build and direct cross-functional project teams focused on delivery of key initiatives
Responsible for overall planning, resource identification, risk management savings assessment/valuation, and quality review of assigned projects progress and provide timely written and verbal communication to department and senior management on project status.
Assess, plan, implement and provide oversight/management for ongoing operational program support.
Manage the expansion and enhancement of the Specialty Pharmacy, Pharmacy Benefit and Medical Benefit program rollout across the UHC Benefits business and leverage for external sales.
Works closely with department managers and co-workers in order to ensure effective rollout of programs or projects that are in compliance with state and federal mandates and regulations upon implementation.
Will utilize critical thinking in researching alternatives focused on best practices achieved in similar projects.
Responsible for identification of and resolution of all issues related to programs/projects/etc.
Identifies and implements technological enhancements for department, often working in conjunction with a representative from the IT organization.
Identifies new opportunities for process improvement projects and data enhancement initiatives. Ensures that the appropriate cost / benefit and / or return on investment analysis are performed, validated and results presented to management for review.
Designs and may be responsible for the communication of a new program or process to relevant departments.

- Bachelors degree in business, healthcare or related field, masters preferred
- 5+ years full life cycle project management experience within a complex, matrixed organization to include managing multiple projects/initiatives that vary in scope and duration
- Moderate to advanced skills with Microsoft Suite to include: Excel (MACROS Pivot Tables, formulas), Word, Access, Visio, Powerpoint and MS Project
- Self-starter. Displays a high level of initiative, demonstrates a willingness to experiment, take risks, invites and explores the potential in new ideas while assessing and understanding risk to programs and to the organization
- Demonstration of critical thinking skills and the ability to translate into results in a complex, matrixed and often ambiguous environment
- Proven success and experience in managing multiple initiatives in a matrixed environment
- Outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven collaboration and influencing skills with both internal and external organizations
- Strong analytic skills to support assessment of potential program opportunities, evaluation of program success/savings and to evaluate business risk impact
- Proven ability to work independently in the application of company goals and philosophies
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, organize and prioritize work and continue to monitor and make changes to work as the project needs dictate
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships; proven collaboration and influencing skills with both internal and external organizations
- Prior project management / operations management experience within a clinical, pharmaceutical, or managed care environment is preferred.
