Position Description:

Qualifications:

The incumbent is responsible for research and development activities for Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics and will be located at the RD center in Northboro, MA. He/She will be expected to effectively lead multiple research efforts to develop innovative and patentable products processes. He/She will be expected to manage priorities, hit timelines technical targets, develop strong working relationships, and communicate effectively. The incumbent will
1.) Develop innovative and patentable fabric reinforcements that result in improved properties performance and are based on unique fabric designs with various input yarns (polymer, glass, carbon, etc.) fabric constructions
2.) Model the impact of reinforcement design and orientation on the targeted composite structures
3.) Build collaborative relationships with our sales force and customer based that help us identify key directions for innovation in composite reinforcement
4.) Work closely with our RD coatings chemists to most effectively combine fabric structure and chemical properties to meet customer expectations and application requirements
5.) Industrialize of new products and processes that meet customer and application requirements
The incumbent will be responsible for working closely with the Technical Fabrics business to ensure that technical projects are strategically targeted. They will also work closely with our production facility in Albion, NY. The incumbent will be expected to stay abreast of new developments and innovations in the field.

NATURE SCOPE OF POSITION
The incumbent will work within the framework of established policies and precedents. They are expected to meet company research standards and follow company research practices. They are expected to utilize sound technical knowledge of textile reinforcements, modeling, and mechanical properties of materials to develop innovative new products, improve product performance, reduce costs, and maximize production efficiency. He/She must be capable of leading and executing projects that may be several months or years in duration. The incumbent must

The incumbent may supervise technicians and/or engineers.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
This position requires skills associated with a BS and work experience, MS and work experience, or PhD in Textile Engineering or other relevant discipline. They must have a proven track record of innovation and successful implementation. Team work, communication skills, attention to detail, customer focus and follow-through are critically important to the incumbent’s success.
