We currently have a career opportunity for a Staff Accountant at our Mabank facility in Mabank, TX.
JOB PURPOSE: To independently perform complex accounting functions which support facility or corporate decision making on highly complex or broad business issues.
JOB DUTIES:
Provide expertise on complex business or financial issues. Additionally, this position will:
- analyze and understand impact and have a broad perspective on specific accounting issues. This requires a comprehensive understanding of Caterpillar’s business accounting procedures practices.
- act as a teacher on accounting issues to staff accountants as well as non-accountants
- resolve complex issues independently
- lead and/or direct teams within or outside of accounting
- take full responsibility for outcomes
This individual should be knowledgeable on a variety of accounting functions, but may generally have specialized areas of responsibility. Incumbent has the ability to accomplish complex and/or technical analysis, to render an accounting opinion or business decision. Incumbent will provide advice/recommendations to business unit managers and leaders often working on tactical and strategic business issues.
Specific areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to:
- provide on-site financial accounting support at both Mabank and DeSoto
- business analyst/product accounting support for package refurbishment engine overhaul product teams as assigned
- financial accounting, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory accounting
- internal management accounting, including facility reporting and budgeting and margin analysis
- development and maintenance of internal controls and procedures
- develop implement improved accounting processes in support of Mexican customers’ specific requirements using 6 Sigma methodology (EDI invoicing/payments, Pemex invoicing, etc)
- supervise projects and lead teams
Incumbent must demonstrate specific accounting knowledge and independently handle accounting issues. Accounting tasks can be varied in areas such as:
- redesigning and implementing of financial systems
- providing financial guidance on cross-functional or business unit product teams
- developing methodology and providing education to accounting and non-accounting staffs and cross-functional teams
- communicating to broader audience on financial issues such as financial systems or tax
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Requires a 4-year degree in Accounting or a similar degree with at least 18 credits in Accounting. Minimum of a 3.0 overall GPA.. Must demonstrate high levels of initiative, leadership, good judgment, the ability to communicate effectively, a broad understanding of accounting business processes, and process improvement. Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience is recommended. CPA/CMA definitely a plus.
