Stand alone legal counsel role- Leading US headquartered Fund Manager recruitment
This global fund management organisation manages in excess of USD $660 billion in assets under management composed of mutual funds and other investment vehicles for individuals, institutions, pension plans, trusts and partnerships.
They have had an established presence in Australia since 1987 in both the retail and institutional markets and have recently bolstered their Australian offering with the acquisition of a significant local equities manager.
Due to this growth they are looking to appoint a legal counsel to be based in the Melbourne office reporting to the regional head in Singapore, responsible for providing legal support to all aspects of the groups operations in Australia.
Key aspects of the role include:
• Managing the launch and registration of new retail and private investment products including Australian domiciled unit trusts
• Reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial agreements including IMA agreements for separate accounts and offering documentation for investment products
• Acting as Company Secretary in relation to Australian domiciled entities
• Managing external counsel relationships
• As part of the Asian legal team, to be involved on international and cross border (non-Australian) work on a ad hoc basis
Candidates sought will have gained at least four years experience within either a fund management/financial services team of a leading law firm and/or experience as legal counsel within an asset management business and have strong familiarity with regulations relating to both the registration and distribution of financial products and services in Australia.
Being a stand alone role, strong commercial awareness and a natural ability to build relationships and influence decisions is critical, as is the ability to work well under pressure handling multiple responsibilities.
In return, this is an excellent and rare opportunity to become the sole lawyer in Australia for a leading global fund, and the compensation (both fixed and discretionary) will be highly competitive.
