Stress Technician
Job Description Under direction from physicians and nurses, performs clinical responsibilities including diagnostic stress testing using the treadmill. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The tasks listed below apply to the daily routine and weekend call. Prepares patient, including 12 lead electrocardiographic hookup, BP cuff placement, I.V. placement and exercise load adjustment. Monitors electrocardiographs, recognizing arrhythmias. Maintains certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Assures completeness of test reports including data editing. Maintains laboratory inventory (supplies, emergency drugs, and equipment). May establish contact with medical sales representatives for the evaluation and purchase of stress systems. Compiles monthly statistics (number of tests performed) and submits to cardiac administrative. Explains the nature and risks of exercise protocol to the patient. Qualifications Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology Knowledge of cardiovascular systems Knowledge of universal precautions Knowledge of EKG interpretive recognition patterns Knowledge of stress/treadmill equipment Knowledge of CPR Ability to perform blood pressure measurements I.V. placement Effective interpersonal communications High school diploma plus certification as EKG technologist. Bachelor's Degree preferred TRAINING On the job training of 2-4 months (dependent upon past practical experience)
