Color-Box, a division of Georgia-Pacific, is currently seeking a Structural Packaging Designer to support the Richmond, IN operations. The Designer will provide key design and production support to internal and external customers by designing cartons to be used in the packaging of end use customer products, primarily in the food, beverage, and consumer industry segments.
Responsibilities will include:
- · Under limited supervision, develop innovative structural designs that are consumer appealing and, at the same time, cost effective, easy to set-up and structurally sound.
- · Create drawings and specifications for new structural packaging components working with internal and external customers through the development and approval process.
- · Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner and according to the provided schedule.
- · Work with Sales, Quality Control and Production to resolve issues with non-conforming materials and/or breakdowns in QC processes.
- · Recommend needed improvements or enhancements to Structural design products and services portfolio in order to stay current with customers and market expectations and demands.
- · Track, manage and provide reports on all packaging projects. Identify needed areas of improvement, as well as successes, in improving costs and productivity.
- · Investigate and procure all data required to develop a design.
- · Layout design and production activities to produce quality structural design work.
- · May interact with in-house and outside vendors to verify packaging specifications.
- · Lead design efforts on assignments and communicate status of assignments to design management and packaging division leadership.
Basic qualifications:
- · Technical degree; Bachelor’s degree in a packaging field preferred
- · Prior work experience as a Structural Designer.
- · Artios CAD experience
- · Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- · Familiarity with TOPS or CAPS
- · Experience in operating sample table cutting devices (i.e Kongsberg table)
- · Strong attention to detail
- · Capable of working in a team environment
K Knowledge - Skills - Abilities:
- · Basic knowledge of automated packaging equipment and some point of purchase display design
- · Experience with shipment tests, stacking and retail requirements
- · Strong written and verbal communication skills
- · Strong cognitive skills (listening, analyzing, interpreting of data)
- · Strong prioritization and time management skills
- · Strong problem solving skills
