Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system and component dimensional requirements and design. Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and Variation Analysis tools or analysis methods, to provide product definition approaches to assist and/or guide other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Assist with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs and requirements. Work independently and with general supervision. Major tasks typically include the following: At a project level, assess process capabilities of the product design. Assess and influence design features for feasibility of manufacturing. Ensure compliance with the geometric dimensioning and tolerance standards are in line with functional requirements and process capabilities. Create baselines that can be improved. Confirm design features to be compatible with selected manufacturing processes. Develop requirements to provide manageable limits at all levels of the design using a variety of data reporting methods Identify, investigate and approve product and process improvements by conducting process and data collection analysis, reviewing best practice data, preparing business cases, performing trade studies, approving and validating proposed changes. Support coordination with teams through product/process improvement methodologies including conducting training. Assist in monitoring and evaluating new technologies. Addition tasks may include the following: Perform variation analysis to calculate the effects of tolerances, locating methods, and assembly sequences. Influence processes to match the requirements from the variation analysis. Evaluate manufacturing data to confirm process control. Influences change proposals to achieve robust variation controls. Coordinate dimensional requirements across internal and external team members. Utilize process capability databases. Provide input to the program plan to ensure timely incorporation of dimensional management activities and deliverables. Analyze and recommend design/build concepts. Create and investigate alternative solutions to meet the functional and assembly requirements. Provide users support for dimensional management. Support proposal preparation and new business development efforts. Perform configuration refinement using regulatory and company approved processes and procedures to ensure hardware compatibility and conformance to engineering definitions. Perform on-going configuration refinement and production support to suppliers and manufacturers to sustain and improve production. Uses syntax, pace, volume, diction, and mechanics appropriate to the media being used. Accurately interprets messages from others and responds appropriately.

[ + ] Continuous Improvement
Reviews a variety of processes to identify gaps between requirements and current outputs within own and occasionally within other work groups. Identifies potential conditions that contribute to gaps or key variances; explores relationships between conditions and effects; distinguishes causes from symptoms and identifies primary causes. Generates ideas for solutions; analyzes the effect or impact of each solution; selects appropriate solutions. Tests solutions; gathers feedback on effectiveness; reviews impact on baseline measures; modifies solutions as appropriate to ensure effectiveness.
