Sugar Commodity Research & Risk Management – Manager
Tasks
Commodity Research:
- To monitor and evaluate the market dynamics and price movement of raw and white sugar, in addition to all related outside markets such as crude petroleum, ethanol, CRB Index, US dollar index, etc.
- Based on raw and white sugar markets’ dynamics and evaluation, make recommendations for: raw sugar buying/hedging; hedging of white premium (which is the difference between white sugar London #5 and raw sugar NY #11, and it is the core of sugar refining margins); rolling the sugar pipeline at favorable raws spreads; etc.
- To continuously improve and update the system for generating sugar recommendations which is based on:
- Technical analysis as affected by money flows/speculative funds, etc.
- Macro analysis as affected by economic/political policy and events
- Fundamental analysis (SND core database)
- Suppliers and consultants views on the supply and demand variables
- Forecasting models giving probabilities of next price move (short to medium term) as explained below
- To implement statistical and technical models
- To implement measures to check the models and systems performance to calculate monthly savings of company’s business units vs. the hand-to-mouth buyers
- To Monitor the Company's business units sugar requirements to ensures coverage and to calculate deadlines and rollover costs
- To Investigate new developments (such as Ethanol/Bio-fuel, HFCS/corn, Macro-economics, etc.)
Risk Management:
- To master hedging tools for Agriculture Commodities including futures, board and OTC options
- To have the knowledge on commodity CASH BASIS and elements affecting their price behaviour
- To apply currency hedging tools associated with business FX exposure, including putting structured FX trading positions
- To have Knowledge of Freight hedging tools and markets
- To be fully aware of Macro and Micro Economics impact on business risk including government intervention and consumer behavior
- To adhere to the Risk Policies for Sugar, and suggest modifications as needed
- To recommend: buying of raw sugar; locking white premiums; and raw sugar spread rolling, etc. The recommendations are based on in-depth commodity research of both raw and white sugar markets
- To hedge the white premiums if and when needed through hedging tools such as options, OTC, etc.
- To manage the risk of raw sugar buying through using proper hedging tools
Profile
- Minimum 2-4 years hands-on experience in commodities Research Risk Trading
- Knowledge of sugar markets including, futures, options, physicals, freight, contracts
- University degree, preferably in any science field
- Strong trader acumen, with ability to assess opportunities and risks and read the market correctly
- Ability to present, challenge and convince management and BU of his market views and recommendations
- Superior market reading skills
- Superior understanding of sugar trade
- Fundamental/Technical analysis of vegoils / other Agri a strong plus
- Strong interest in financial markets, relating business conditions with market movements trading positions
- Analytical skills, statistical tests, fundamental and technical analysis of the sugar and related commodities.
- Excellent computer skills
