Supervisor Underwriting II

Conducts comprehensive underwriting review and coverage binding of auto, home and umbrella insurance policies. Supports profitability and growth of assigned territory.

Supervise staff that reviews, accepts, rejects and underwrites insurance risks for multiple product lines.

- Responsible for the quality and quantity of risks underwritten and for reporting accordingly.

- Responsible for the profitability of the Underwriters' assigned territories.

- Oversees staff development, production and performance issues.

- Closely interacts with all functional areas and represents department on initiatives across business lines.

- Acts as a liaison between partner clubs and Underwriting handling a regionalized territory.

- Analyze production and workload distribution reports to identify underwriting actions trends (i.e. accept, modify, or reject the policy), and recommend sufficient resources to meet business objectives Ensures compliance with company procedures.

- Provides technical expertise to Supervisor I and underwriting staff.

- Responsible for and/or assisting staff in regards to DOI regulatory compliance, executive complaints/concerns.

- Assist legal department in researching the Underwriting practices/procedures that could potentially give rise to a lawsuit against AAA.

- Directs underwriting decision making, working across business lines - Claims, Sales, Product.

- Involved in employee performance development, mid and annual reviews, corrective actions, recommends termination, performance improvement plans, cross training.

- Recommend process improvements to meet business objectives by analyzing production and workload and identifying trends.

- Develop and oversee department operational plans

- Assist management in monitoring and forecasting staffing requirements, work schedules and service objectives in accordance with business goals.

- Assists in managing department expenses (overtime, rewards recognition, travel, meal, office supplies) meetings, conference calls

- Work with Sales, Product, and Partner Clubs - agent visits on creating, improving or making changes to Underwriting policies, guidelines, and transaction processes.

- Participates in interviewing/hiring process, job fairs, recruiting.

- Makes recommendations (and may take the lead) for hiring in concert with hiring team - ie; Supv I/ Mgr I/Mgr II.

- Involved in employee performance development, mid and annual reviews, corrective actions, recommends termination, performance improvement plans and cross training.

- Coordinate training needs - identify areas of development and creating training to staff.

- Work with enterprise wide trainers to conduct product/policy training.

- May collaborate with Contact Center and conduct Underwriting training for Customer Service.

Ability to lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Computer work - sitting, typing, printing. Ability to travel

Knowledge, Skills Abilities

Required:

- Bachelor's degree in related area (Business) or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- 5+years Property Casualty Experience

- 2- 3 P C Underwriting experience and/or professional education - AIC/CPCU

- Prior people leadership

- Work effectively on cross-functional teams and enterprise wide projects

- Advanced knowledge of MS Office tools

- Understanding/apply insurance industry trends, regulations, guidelines, policy, and procedures

- Analyze statistical data

- Strong mathematical skill

- Strong interpersonal/communication skills (written and verbal)

- Decision making - ability to recognize problems and provide recommendation for solution
