Supplier Quality Engineer

 

Primary Duties:

   As a member of Supplier Operations team, the Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will be responsible for improvement of the product supply base. The candidate will work with a core team to manage supplier processes, continual improvement programs, supplier quality performance, and sustainable infrastructure development initiatives. The team will focus on selecting suppliers to support commodity strategies, qualifying technical capability of the supply base, training and developing supply base to control their processes through validated tools and methodologies, driving sustainable levels of  supplier quality and on-time delivery, facilitating value engineering and value analysis projects to provide cost reduction solutions through our suppliers, working with suppliers to develop a systemic cost down approach, identifying new suppliers, and managing transition products and consolidation/rationalization throughout the supply base in support of the production and service operations across the organization.

 

Responsibilities Associated with the Position:

- Works on issues of diverse scope within various commodities (mechanical / electro-mechanical) where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors in an effort to obtain failure analysis and root-cause corrective actions.
- Ensures suppliers processes are capable and will consistently meet established requirements with high statistical confidence.
- Continual work with suppliers to improve performance, implement process controls and quality plans.
- Interact routinely with Purchasing, Engineering and Suppliers to pro-actively improve quality of components.
- Conducts supplier facility surveys of potential components providers.
- Establishes requirements for suppliers to achieve process and quality standards.
- Facilitates development of team/partner relationships with suppliers and maintains relationships for long-term contracts for delivery of high quality parts.
- Facilitates problem solving and continual improvement, ultimately transferring knowledge base to suppliers

Required Work Experience, Skills and Competencies:
- Working knowledge of quality management models and systems including the ability to effectively evaluate and qualify suppliers.
- Knowledge of theory and principals of statistical process control.
- Strong Knowledge of Machining / Electro-Mechanical / PCBA Manufacturing.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Bachelor of Science with 8 plus years experience in manufacturing, quality, and continual improvement.
- Ability to analyze a situation and facilitate a problem solving session – systemic approach to problem solving.
- Ability to foster change, promote and implement improvement.
- Experience with ISO-9001 and/or AS9100 requirements; QS9000, ISO13485, TS-16949 would be a plus.
