Supplier Quality Improvement Engineer
Based in Northants Daventry
£32-36k + Benefits
Participate as member of various program and launch teams for assigned New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. Coordinate all elements of Supplier Quality Improvement Engineer support for plant and engineering NPI customers. Tracks and manages key quality metrics for the programs. Summarizes and presents status at key Functional and Management Reviews. Manage select set of suppliers and interface with plant customers. Oversees, directs and continually improves the activities of Supplier Quality Management. Travel between 20% and 40% may be required.
· Will manage the quality interaction with assigned suppliers, including the assessment of a given supplier’s quality systems, supplier selection, and traditional quality assurance activities such as corrective action, containment, and process approval.
· Manages the successful re-sourcing of current product or process approval of new product utilizing the tools of APQP.
· Facilitates regular communications between manufacturing plants and suppliers to resolve supplier quality related issues as required.
· Ensures that appropriate actions are in place and corrective action plans are documented from suppliers to address discrepant materials when they occur.
· Measure supplier quality performance according to documented procedures and drive appropriate improvements to meet established targets.
· Provide input to Commodity Teams in the development of overall sourcing strategies.
· Oversees and performs audits of suppliers’ quality systems and manufacturing processes.
· Utilize project management tools to complete multiple, varied, tasks.
· Will have knowledge of Early learning and Pass-through techniques with a view to develop improve the supply base.
· Will work to M phase approval process, ensuring that all documentation is complete at the desired level
· Drive APQP implementation within the supply base, ensuring adequate tracking tools are in place for each product.
· Liaise with global VPI team for functional excellence and assist global projects where required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related curriculum required.
- Considerable experience in a Quality/Supplier Quality function.
- Experience as a Six Sigma Belt a plus.
- Working knowledge with overseas suppliers and subcontractors is a plus.
- Foreign language abilities are a plus
- Product and process knowledge of Machining, Castings, Electronics, Assembly, Stampings and Coatings are a plus.
- Working knowledge and auditing experience to ISO 9001:2000 / TS 16949 quality system standards.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to deal effectively with suppliers and various internal functions.
