Northrop Grumman Information Systems (NGIS) was selected by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency to participate on the Missile Defense National Team. This team was chartered to develop a Ballistic Missile Defense System for the United States. Air Missile Defense Systems (AMDS) serves as Northrop Grumman Information Systems' focal point for all activities associated with missile defense, including Command, Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC), simulation modeling, systems engineering, and target discrimination.

The Missile Defense Systems Engineering Team (MDSET) is currently seeking a ­­­Systems Engineer 4 to be located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Description:

Performs systems engineering architecture and requirements development activities to support integration of Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) capabilities, concepts and design in the areas of Battle Management/Command Control/Communication (BM/C2/C), and RF / IR sensor management, weapon systems, and interfaces, focusing on the BMDS sensors and integrated system behavior with the BMDS. Participates in the development of system/component architecture and behavior analysis using a structured UML modeling approach. Develops design packages that comprise the supporting analysis, definition, and architecture needed to document, allocate and trace BMD System and Element level requirements, for existing or new capabilities. Prepares products to update the BMD technical baseline (including the BMD System Specification and BMD System Interface Control Documents) to incorporate the BM/C2/C, sensor, and weapon system capabilities/requirements/interfaces.

Leads and participates in engineering working groups of stakeholders from BMDS Elements and other MDA organizations to facilitate collaboration of technical disconnects and/or issues and negotiate resolution, providing technical input as necessary. Develops project schedules for engineering product updates, and approval of design / requirements packages through the established engineering review / approval process. Monitors engineering tasks to remain on schedule and within scope. Coordinates trade studies and analyses performed by MDSET and coordinates the results with stakeholders; Identifies and tracks issues to resolution. Provides succinct yet comprehensive briefings to team and MDA management/leadership, as needed.

Basic Qualifications - Candidates must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Bachelor's Degree in technical field and a minimum of 9 years of experience in an engineering classification.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Systems engineering background with particular subject matter expertise in discrimination concepts and/or algorithms, and BM/C2/C and/or RF / IR sensor capabilities / requirements development.
  • Experience with a Unified Modeling Language (UML) (System Architect) and DOORS or similar systems engineering tools.
  • Strong coordination, organization, teaming and communication abilities along with horizontal integration skills.
  • Ability to develop solutions to a wide range of complex system-of-systems technical problems that require ingenuity, innovation and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop, document, and maintain processes, methods, and tools.
  • Ability to manage and understand multiple various tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications - Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Experience with a Missile Defense element such as Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), X-Band Radar (XBR), Command Control Battle Management Communication (C2BMC), Project Hercules. Computer skills to include Microsoft Office.
