The major functions performed by Global Compliance include providing advice to the business, testing, monitoring, regulatory reporting, training, surveillance, managing regulatory audits and inquiries, and developing and implementing policies and procedures. From global financial centers to important developing markets, Global Compliance professionals interpret and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and determine how the firm can appropriately pursue global market opportunities.

Global Compliance is organized broadly into divisional compliance groups and centralized compliance groups, each with firmwide responsibilities.
 

The principal objective of the Compliance Testing Group is to create and execute detailed testing work programs to assess compliance with regulations and firm policies. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to lead the Asia Pacific arm of an international team located in New York, London, Tokyo, Bangalore and Hong Kong. This role will work closely with compliance and business management, and gain an excellent understanding of both the firm’s businesses and the rules and regulations under which the firm operates.

The manager of the Compliance Testing Group in Hong Kong will lead a team of five individuals conducting tests covering the Securities, Investment Banking, Merchant Banking, Private Wealth Management, Global Investment Research, and Asset Management divisions. The individual will report through to the Global Head based in New York and the Head of Compliance in Asia Pacific ex-Japan.

The individual should:
• Lead and motivate the team to conduct approximately 30-40 reviews per annum
• Leverage strong communication skills to interact with compliance and business senior management
• Grasp business and global regulatory policies
• Conduct research, data gathering, analysis and prepare reports
• Identify and effectively escalate potential issues to the appropriate individuals

Responsibilities:
• Lead and motivate a team of five compliance testing professionals
• Design the testing plan for the year through discussion with compliance and business management
• Design work programs and then execute test steps within assigned budgets, and meet tight deadlines to evaluate compliance with rules and regulations.
• Multi-task – have the ability to work on several different projects with different individuals at the same time
• Document work performed, findings, conclusions and corrective actions required in organized workpapers
• Communicate with business management on findings and obtaining consensus on corrective actions required
• Team with colleagues around the globe, to share findings and refine processes
 

Basic Qualifications:
• At least 3 or more years of team management experience
• At least 5 or more years of auditing experience or other investigative work in the financial services industry (Recognized audit certification such as ACA, CIA, CISA, or CPA preferred)
• Excellent interview, presentation and written communication skills
• Excellent time management, analytical and communication skills
• Integrity, motivation, intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is a must and knowledge of Access and PowerPoint is useful
• Understanding of information technology systems and standard system implementation methodologies
• Financial Instruments Product Knowledge (ACT, CFA, Prmia or FRM qualifications would be useful)
• Native-level fluency in English language, both orally and in writing
 

Preferred Qualifications
• Compliance background or good knowledge of rules and regulations
• Understanding of accounting
