Every day we process and deliver catalog data to services across the company - including our stores worldwide - through an infrastructure consisting of thousands of servers distributed across multiple regions. Our systems management challenges are far from trivial and we have a strong focus on fleet automation, smart capacity management and thorough root cause resolution. As a Systems Engineer based in Seattle, your core responsibilities will be: Build systems that automatically manage our services and improve the quality of our support. Support of the Item and Offers Pipeline's mission critical systems, deployed globally and running at Amazon scale. Lead troubleshooting efforts to fully resolve issues by working with peers and other teams across the company. The successful candidate is innovative, self-directed, with the ability to learn fast and a passion for delivering high quality support services and driving down operational burden. He/She will also be comfortable working independently in a close-knit team of talented engineers. Basic Qualifications Proven experience running and maintaining a 24x7 Internet-oriented production environment, preferably across multiple data centers and hundreds of machines. 3-5 years experience in Linux systems management and scripting. Thorough understanding of internet protocols. Solid coding skills in at least one programming language (Python, Java, C++), Python preferred. Familiarity with SQL language and relational databases such as Oracle and MySQL. Bachelorrsquo;s degree, preferably in computer science or a similar technical degree. Strong analytical skills. Ability to learn technical concepts quickly with a strong sense of urgency. Comfortable supporting mission critical services in an oncall rotation arrangement. Preferred Qualifications Excellent communications skills. Designing and/or implementing system health and performance monitoring tools for 24x7 environments. Performance testing and/or system capacity planning experience. Experience in the design and implementation of automation of operational tasks. Familiarity with coding practices including good design documentation, source control, unit testing, peer code-reviews, object-oriented design/coding skills, etc. Exposure to database development or administration, Oracle or MySQL preferred.
