What you will do
As a Systems Monitoring Engineer you will be responsible for creating and maintaining software to monitor our complex trading architecture. You will work in a fast-paced environment where your actions have a direct impact on our PL and thus on the success of Optiver. This role does not only involve monitoring. It also entails actively creating and improving the monitoring system, base-lining, deploying and technical troubleshooting of the monitoring system. You will be working with highly skilled and engaged colleagues in an informal and dynamic setting. On top of that you will be in direct contact with our traders and technical stakeholders.
As a Systems Monitoring Engineer you will:
- Create and maintain software to monitor our complex trading architecture;
- Join in projects to design and implement new parts of the monitoring system;
- Deploy and support the monitoring system;
- Automate the process of getting data from different sources to compare with baselines and automatically act on breaches;
- Help users (traders and trading application engineers) gain insight in the performance of our trading systems;
- Pro-actively think of new ways to measure our performance, by interacting with the users of the system, being trading application engineers and traders;
- Constantly be on top of your game to increase the team- and system performance.
What you will need
- As our new System Monitoring Engineer you will need to recognise yourself in most of the following requirements:
- At least 3 years of relevant working experience e.g. System Engineer, Developer or Data Analyst;
- A Bachelor or Master degree, preferably related to a technical / beta study;
- Solid Python development / scripting skills (at least 2 years of experience);
- Strong UNIX background (at least 2 years of experience);
- The drive to develop trading knowledge and deepen your technical skills;
- Experience with SQL query language, knowledge of postgreSQL is a plus;
- Experience with SubVersion/GIT is a plus;
- A hands-on mentality and a critical mind;
- The ability to get things done with your innovative and creative ideas.
