Tax Analyst
Summary:
Maintains and monitors procedures, documentation and controls while supporting and defending all state/local initiated sales and use tax audits, reverse audits, and refund claims; interacts with state and local authorities. Prepares State and Local Sales and Use Tax returns on a monthly/quarterly basis; researches all tax adjustments and obtains necessary tax exemption documentation;
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare, support and defend all state/local initiated sales and use tax audits, reverse audits, and refund claims; interacts with state and local authorities.
- Prepares sales and use tax returns using Vertex Quantum for Sales Use Tax compliance software. Maintains current Sales and Use Tax Registrations.
- Researches all adjustments to billed Sales Tax, documents findings, obtains necessary exemption documentation and updates customer taxability status in billing system. Consistently maintains updated exemption certificates for ADT's customers and vendors.
- Compiles and reviews fixed asset purchases on a semi-monthly basis to ensure the application of Sales Tax by vendors; schedules monthly Use Tax accrual as applicable.
- Prepares Accounts Payable vouchers for timely payment of sales and use taxes. Prepares journal entries for Electronic Funds Transfer requests and miscellaneous adjustments.
- Responds to inquiries from taxing authorities and documents findings.
- Special projects as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of three (3) years prior related experience with an accounting firm or large multi-state corporation.
- Masters/CPA/CMI designations a plus.
EDUCATION:
- BA/BS in Accounting, Business or Finance preferred.
SKILLS:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet all deadlines.
- Good general accounting knowledge.
- Computer proficiency in Oracle and Vertex a plus.
