Description

Oversee Tax Department personnel regarding the coordination and completion of tax provisions and related tax returns for regulated investment companies and investment partnerships. Performs second level, detailed review of 1) tax year-end provisions, 2) financial statement footnotes and related disclosures, 3) federal and state income tax returns, 4) excise tax distribution calculations and federal excise tax returns, 5) year-end fund-level shareholder reporting information, 6) partnership tax provisions, partner tax allocations, and income tax returns and Schedule K-1s for investment partnerships. Coordinates with external auditors/tax personnel to insure that the aforementioned deliverables are complete, accurate, and timely prepared and filed. Designs, implements, and coordinates appropriate staff training in collaboration with other tax managers. Remains abreast of current tax issues affecting the investment management industry. Interacts with clients and fund accounting to stay abreast of fund operations, and provide tax analysis where appropriate. Ensures that electronic tax worksheets properly apply statutory concepts and assist in determining ways to create departmental efficiencies. Expert knowledge of accounting and tax principles (e.g., book income vs. taxable income) pertaining to regulated investment companies/investment partnerships. Works with Tax Supervisors and Unit Managers to resolve identified tax issues. Keeps abreast of industry developments and applicable tax law changes. Can write reports and/or correspondence to individuals or groups who may have different interests and goals, where examples of format may exist but not content. Can document complex technical results and/or procedures with minimal direction. Manages a small work group in the completion of a specific project or goal. Develops staff members through technical training; provides assignments that are challenging. Manages a project of major scope. May involve employees from different, but related, disciplines. May require integration of complicate or diverse inputs to achieve project s objectives. Plans/allocates the activities of a small work group or project team comprised of employees with similar areas of expertise and goals. Mentor/trains others; acts as a role model for teamwork in the organization. Decisions impact project success, client relationships and the department s ability to meet objectives. Works with both internal and external groups to identify, understand and resolve issues. Must think outside the box to develop solutions. Performs complex tax research and planning on specific tax issues. Maintains effective internal and external contacts. Models good client relations. Anticipates and meets both short and long-term needs of customers. Seeks ways of improving client service orientation. Influence or motivate individuals or groups who may have different interests and goals. Requires presentation of potentially complex information and views.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA, MBA and MST (or progress towards) preferred.5-8 years RIC Tax/4 years managerment. Public Accounting experience preferred.
