Title Technician - Polymer Technology Group Description The Goodyear Tire Rubber Company maintains an in-house research effort in the areas of polymers and polymer manufacturing. The Polymer Technology Group within Goodyear operates research labs and small scale polymerization units in support of the new product and process development efforts of the company. The technician is an integral part of this team along with Chemists, Chemical Engineers and Polymer Scientists. We are currently seeking a technician to conduct polymer synthesis in support of new product development efforts. The work will be carried out in small scale polymerization facilities with the objective of developing emerging new products as well as improving existing manufacturing processes. Requirements * High school degree required * Ability to work off-shift approximately two weeks per month required * Physical or chemical laboratory experience preferred * Pilot plant or small scale reactor experience preferred * Computer skills in programs such as Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes preferred * Strong communication and organizational skills required * Ability to work within a team oriented environment * Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude Tasks * Operate small scale batch and continuous polymerization and finishing units * Prepare polymer and other samples according to customer requests * Set up and operate small glassware laboratory apparatus * Operate a variety of testing equipment including: Mooney viscometer, gas chromatograph, differential scanning calorimeter * Compile and interpret results of tests * Record process conditions and observations accurately * Troubleshoot, maintain and clean laboratory and process equipment * Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers * Communicate thoroughly and clearly with fellow operations technicians, engineers and customers * Follow all safety and environmental work practices Type Full-time Location OH, Akron 279476665
